I am very confused with this?

#
If you are at least 17 1/2' you may obtain a permit without driver education or driver training. However, you must bring in the forms to show you have completed driver education and driver training (DL 387, DL 388, DL 388A, OL 237, or OL 238)* or wait until you are 18 to get a license.

im 17 and im going to be 17 and a half in september my bday is in march but if i take drivers ed now im gonna have to do that for six months....but if i wait until september i dont have to take drivers ed and itll be easier?.......im confused what should i do

It seems there is a difference between a "permit" and a "license" You can get a "permit" at 17 1/2 without attending any class. However, you can get a "license" if you (a) are 17 1/2 and attend driver education or driver training (and bring proof via a form); or (b) you are 18 years old, and you do not need proof. I am guessing a "permit" is some sort of restricted license (drive with an adult), while a license is just your standard driver's license with no restriction. You are going to have to wait until March to get your license, or you need to attend driver's ed to get it in September. Otherwise, you can only get a permit, whatever that means.

It depends on if you want to learn to drive correctly or if you want an insurance discount. Both of these you will get with driver's ed. I would say do the driver's ed and get it over with.

It depends on if you want to pass your drivers test the first, second or third time.

If you don't have to drive just wait. 6 months is nothing in the grand scheme of things. I waited till I was 18 and I never felt like I missed out on anything
