Calling Palm Beach County's high school graduation rate "shamefully low," the American Civil Liberties Union on Tuesday sued local educators to churn out more diplomas.
In a class-action lawsuit filed on behalf of parents and students, the ACLU accused the Palm Beach County School Board and Superintendent Art Johnson of failing to provide students with a high-quality education guaranteed under the state constitution.
And it cites a "significant disparity" between the local graduation rates of white students and their black and Hispanic peers.
Maybe the minority kids should try "study" to improve their grades instead of spittingon the white man's education. That would involve "personal responsibility" of which the ACLU wants no part. They are trying to recruit more stupid Democrats. Inadequate school system or lazy students?? This is a case to watch. The ACLU has called directly into the bulls eye the study habits of minorities and others. The allegedly low graduation rate does not automatically equate to poor education. The Constitution doesn't guarantee us an education. Even if it did it is still up to the individual to make the most of the education they are presented with. The ultimate purpose of the ACLU is to destroy our society to pave the way for totalitarian Communism. (The group was founded by a radical Communist - look it up.) Requiring personal responsibility and rewarding exceptional talent are contrary to their goals. I guess the exams were given in English... maybe they want courses that are relevant like

Revealing FACTS on the ACLU

Ever notice how the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) seems to take on only cases that are anti-Christian - pro-sodomy, pro-abortion, anti-family, pro-pornography, pro-prostitution, pro-euthanasia, pro-homosexual, pro-infanticide, pro-crime, pro-humanism, anti-God -- and, except for atheism, anti-religion?
It calls itself the American Civil Liberties Union, but the ACLU is not American; it is uncivil (to the unborn, which are shredded mercilessly to pieces without anesthetic); and it knows nothing of true liberty, which can only be found in Jesus Christ, when one is set free from the bondage of all the SIN this evil organization PROMOTES!
Stated Goals
The ACLU's founder, Roger Baldwin, stated: "We are for SOCIALISM, disarmament, and ultimately for abolishing the state itself... We seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class, and the SOLE CONTROL of those who produce wealth. COMMUNISM is the goal." (Source: Trial and Error, by Geo. Grant)
The ACLU is destructive to the fabric of our society. Christians must recognize Satan as the source - the instigator - when the end results of an organization's efforts are only "to kill, to steal, and to destroy." All we need to is examine the (rotten) fruit.
Following are some of the stated goals of the ACLU, from its own published Policy Issues:
the legalization of prostitution (Policy 211);
the defense of all pornography, including CHILD PORN, as "free speech" (Policy 4);
the decriminalization and legalization of all drugs (Policy 210);
the promotion of homosexuality (Policy 264);
the opposition of rating of music and movies (Policy 18);
opposition against parental consent of minors seeking abortion (Policy 262);
opposition of informed consent preceding abortion procedures (Policy 263);
opposition of spousal consent preceding abortion (Policy 262);
opposition of parental choice in children's education (Policy 80)
-- not to mention the defense and promotion of euthanasia, polygamy, government control of church institutions, gun control, tax-funded abortion, birth limitation, etc. (Policies 263, 133, 402, 47, 261, 323, 271, 91, 85).
Following is a case in point (from David Barton's "America: To Pray or Not to Pray").
In 1988, California was considering adopting legislation on sex education for public schools requiring that course material and
instruction should stress that monogamous heterosexual intercourse within marriage is a traditional American value.
The Senator promoting the bill received a letter of protest from the ACLU dated April 18, 1988 stating:
"It is our position that monogamous, heterosexual intercourse within marriage
as a traditional American value is an unconstitutional establishment of religious
doctrine in public schools.... We believe [this bill] violates the First Amendment."
Truth is, liberals are unwilling to simply let others be, but rather seek to impose their UNgodliness upon Christians. It is a mission to
them and other atheists to pervert the freedoms of others. The ACLU does not run to the defense of those who are harmed; it aggressively
seeks out opportunities to corrupt pure freedoms.
Finances
How does the ACLU pay for its activities?
George Grant, author of "Trial and Error," puts the ACLU's annual budget (1993) at $14 MILLION (FOURTEEN MILLION DOLLARS) - much of which is "SUPPLIED BY THE AMERICAN TAXPAYER through the Federal program mandated by the Civil Rights Attorneys' Fee Awards Act of 1976. If the ACLU wins a case that involves a public institution, for instance, the organization collects the full legal fees of its attorneys even though those attorneys offered their services pro bono (without charge). You know, I have a daughter who is a sophomore in HS- i see her report card every 6 weeks . She brings home a 3 week report mid grading period.
It's not like if these parents were doing their job, it would be a surprise to them that their child is failing HS.
It is not the schools job to hand the kids a diploma- it is the kid's job to earn it. It is a parents job to make sure their child is doing what it takes to pass (at least- I mean how much effort does it take just to pass HS).
I can proudly say my daughter is honor roll regular with a 4.0 .
Maybe the ACLU should waste their time sending these kids parents to parenting class.
ADD: Robert P- i love your answer. Everyone is entitled to anything even if they can't earn it. Dey need da diplomas fo dey self estem. Because the ACLU is really the American Civil Liberties Union which means that it wants us to be a socialist nation without religion and where people get passed along in school even though they are not qualified. Look at the colleges, most incoming Freshmen have to take some type of remedial class before they can take actual college classes.
Also I have heard of the movement of passing a class by attending class every day whether you know the material or not. I even had students in one of my humanity classes suggesting this. I taught for 12 years in a "ghetto highschool" in south florida. It's 100 times more difficult to teach in a school like that than it is at a school where students come with a head start, AND bring paper, pens, pencils and notebooks. I often thought if they (the bad ones, about 20%) were in a private school they'd be kicked out. So on one hand Palm Beach or any county is making a great effort to reach lots of kids that don't give a flying Fcuk! There's more vandalism, so a lot of the school budget had to be spent on repairs, janitorial services, and security. On the other hand, florida state is notorious for underfunding education, so I think more of the blame should be placed with the legislature in Tallahassee. Although at my school, about 20% didn't give a flip, we also faced shortages of books, desks, and teachers. Teachers would get frustrated in the middle of the year and leave, then were replaced by rotating substitutes. So, I have mixed views on this. I really felt for the kids who wanted to learn, but I blamed the (R) governor Jethro Bush and his (R) legislature for constantly shortchanging the schools in Fla. more than the county. I thought Crist would be better, but now the legilature is at it again, proposing even more cuts to education in a state that's way down on the list in per pupil spending.
However, something needs to be done about the troublemakers who are out ofcontrol and get no punishment until they seriously hurt someone. Our hands were tied and we (teachers and school personnel) were expected to kiss @ss of some really nasty, defiant and arrogant youth. As I said, they would have been kicked out of private schools, and they'd have been kicked out decades ago. Maybe that's why schools seem to have gone down. We are required to go way above and beyond the call of duty to try to work with kids who come to school without paper and pencil but have a cellphone and an ipod.
