John Walsh of America's Most Wanted profiled the death/murder of a teenage girl in High School. Your thoughts

The profile of the death (murder) of the teenage girl was profiled on the Feb. 3, 2007 edition of AMW.

Has teenage abuses among teenagers when dating and/or socializing become a problem?

Who is accountable for the 1 in 4 abuses (sexual, physical, etc.) currently being reported by teenagers when dating..?

Should the educational system/Board of Education begin mandating school children to attend classes on how to properly interact with teenagers of the opposite sex when dating or socializing..?

Would a mandated program of social interaction by the school system benefit and reduce the reported cases of abuse suffered by teenagers when dating...?

Have you ever experienced abuse as a teenager or know of anyone who has been the victim of teen date rape, sexual/physical abuse or harassment to any degree...?

Your thoughts....

The schools can't be held responsible for another teaching task. They can't teach the basics now.
Parents have abdicated reponsibility for their kids to anyone who stands still. Boys and girls are exposed to violence at an astounding rate from the minute they are set in front of the TV.
Sexuality is made more and more titillating and taboo, while simultaneously being shoved in our faces at every turn.
Why are we surprised at the behavior of kids under the influence of hormones, lack of supervision, and possibly drugs and alcohol?

Would a mandated program of social interaction by the school system benefit and reduce the reported cases of abuse suffered by teenagers when dating...?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
It wouldn't. If the schools can't teach kids to read, write and spell what makes you think they are the proper place to learn social interaction?
What percentage of the boys (I've got 3 boys and 3 girls) who engage in this behavior come from homes with an absent father?
What percentage of the girls who tolerate this type of behavior come from homes with an absent father?
Schools can't do anything about kids who come from dysfunctional families. That's a societal problem.
PS. Of my six kids, one has a graduate degree, one is in graduate school, one is an undergraduate, two are in high school and one is in middle school. I've been married to their mother for almost 27 years. We've never had a single problem of any kind.
Someone's to drunk to reply responsibly....maybe domani.
Perhaps boys and girls should be kept apart until the age of 21. That may solve the problem.
Teenagers are frightfully awful at the best of times. Little more than animals. Very taxing to control them.
Unfortunately, every female needs to be aware of this possibly happening to them. It can happen at a very young age by someone within their family or a date rape as they get older.
I do feel that there should be something taught as early as junior high and then more in high school but most their education about this needs to come from their own homes. Parents/guardians need to teach their children (both boys and girls) about what can happen and what to do to possibly prevent this from happening, particularly females. If the kids have to learn it on the streets, the lesson will usually be much harder and as in this case, possibly fatal.
It should go without saying that abuse among teenagers when dating and/or socializing has been a problem for some time. I feel it started in the Sixties when anything became permissible, which is made worse by the fact that parents are not as strict disciplinarians as they once were; so I put the blame with the parents first and the educational system second.
While primarily done by men, nonetheless abuse can occur by either sex toward either.
While I feel education and counseling would be of benefit I think it has to start in the home AND among the teenagers themselves who have to show their disapproval of such nonsense.
As for me I was raised back in the day and do not know of any abuse going on then (perhaps those in my schools that had such just kept their mouths shut). In my day it was my PARENTS who were the abusers (I'm just joking!) - but by their discipline they sure prevented anything in my family at least.
There has been an increase in sexual/physical abuse among teenagers.I believe that this behavior is on the rise for many reasons.First,in most households both parents must work leaving the children to fend for themselves.Parents have the responsiblity to instill in their children right from wrong and that they should report abuses.Parents have a responsibilty to teach their children how to live and act in socially appropriately.
The education system is responsible to teach the academic lessons needed to succeed in life.
I have never been the victim of teen date rape or abuse or harrassment.as a teen.
I think girls need to be taught about boys and what to aware of it might help prevent some of the problems today. I also think it might help with child abuse cases to education people. we need to education what abuse is sexually rather it is sexually harassment or what education is the key to help our kids.
