I got a speeding ticket.?

I got a ticket for going like 40 in a 35...Well, I paid the cost of the ticket. Something like 170 dollars..
They told me I also had to take a drivers education course. Well I didn't and now my deadline is almost up. I got a letter stating that if I fail to take course and present documentation of it then it will result in a conviction.
What!? What is the worst that they could do to me if I already paid the fine and only failed to take the course!???

They can suspend your license. Most likely however they are reffering to the fact that usually they offer you the oppurtunity to pay a fine and complete driving school. If you complete these 2 conditions no conviction is recorded on your record. If you fail to complete one or both of these conditions then a conviction is recorded and your DMV record will show the violation. Now in most states certain convictions equal so many points and if you exceed so many points with in a given time period you no longer eligible for automatic renewal of your license and in some cases (depending on total points) your license can be suspended. The more immediate affect however will be that your speeding conviction will result in your insurance company raising your rates immediately.

Put points on your license and a conviction on your record. Hello, higher insurance rates.

they slap a ho.e

well alot of bad things would happen so just try not to speed any more

british columbia is insaine like that too. i got a huge ticket then got a letter saying i was on drivers probation. if i got another ticket my licence would be suspended. theres also this thing that they are trying to do where a speeding ticket will result in an insurace increase of $300 over the course of a year. so you pay the $190 ticket then another $300!!! this is crazy. drunk drivers get off easier than the speeders. you better take the course though. i know it sucks but there are penalties. probably another fine. bloody government

good luck getting anyone who's not a hypocrite answering this one. let me just sum up some of the negative comments you'll recieve:
you're a terrible person. stop driving. i hope you get your license taken. no-one but you ever speeds. cops are never wrong. you almost killed someone from speeding. i hope you go to jail and never get to drive again. you're the worst driver EVER!
unless someone comes up w/something more original, you should be safe from the @ssholes who think they're perfect on here.

Points on your license, confiction on your driving record which in turn means higher insurance. And they could suspend you driver's license since that was part of the 'plea' per say. In some states they could put out a bench warrant.
Good luck!

Every state is different. For that matter, every county in every state can be different. It depends upon if it was a state trooper, sheriff, etc. as the ticketing officer. I worked as a paralegal in NY and one thing a judge can do to you (but only usually if you are a repeat offender) is they can suspend your license. However, if you get a spiteful judge who has had a bad day, he/she may just go ahead and do it. I would set up a time to take the course and then get it in writing, sending a copy to the judge's office as soon as you can. Otherwise, you will most likely get points on your license and that will most likely cost you more money in insurance. It is best to just take care of it even though it is a pain. Good luck!

They are giving you a chance to avoid points on your license...this will make your insurance premiums go higher if you don't take the class.

What state do you live in?? In Florida they wouldn't even bother to pull you over if your about ten miles over the speed limit. FIVE?! Screw that.
