I don't get how this street slang pamphlet is racist?

now...they the ebonics thing, that was wrong. it should've been labeled "street slang" or something. other than that, i don't get what's so racist about it. it doesn't imply all blacks speak like that, but there is a substantial enough number that understanding the slang could be the difference between life and death.

also, they were the ones that invented the "language", why are they now saying it's racist for cops to try to understand it? it's like a group of white men building a laser that exterminates white people, and then saying that it's racist for anyone to use it -- why make it then?

i really don't get it....your thoughts?

i've seen the inside. it starts off with an explanation of what ebonics/street slang is, and then goes on to explain words in this fashion:

I can understand publishing a "street slang" pamphlet but that's what they should have called it.

It's offensive b/c it implies that all black people speak "ebonics" which is a fallacy.

Even the title: Ghetto Speak 101 and the negative images on the front are inflammatory.

Would a pamphlet be useful? Sure. Was this particular one composed in an effective/neutral manner? Heck no.

There's no way to guess without seeing the pamphlet. I suspect that it was intended to make fun of blacks more than to educate others to understand Ebonics, and that's why people were outraged.

It isn't. But, ebonics IS racist, because it is an attempt to keep non-blacks from knowing what the blacks are talking about. The beef is they don't want their codes to become common knowledge.

The pamphlet does not imply that all blacks talk that way- only the "ebonics speaking" ones. More reverse racism- racist blacks opposing whites.
