Why was the voting rights act necessary?

Thomas Jefferson indicated that education of the public was essential for democracy to flourish in the United States. The public must have adequate information about potential public officials prior to voting.

What might Jefferson say about modern campaigns and the modern public??

Thanx a bunch for all your Feedback!!! <3

Jefferson would hate modern politics, especially because during his time, presidents did not campaign, they had people speak for them and there was no bashing of their opponents. Why cant we go back to such wonderful times?

The voting rights act is so that peopl like me can go and vote and not run into white masked men asking me what I think I'm doing. It also ensures that as long as you're a citizen you will not be denied the right to vote.
Very important law

It was necessary because after the 15th Amenment was passed (1870) some states, specially from the south, found ways to cincurmvent the amendment. So between 1870 and mid 20th century African Americans had to go through a lot of discrimination and impediments to cast their vote (such as poll taxes, white primaries, literacy tests).

The Voting Rights of 1965 outlawed that kind of techniques (at least those that had not been declared unconstitutional then) and therefore ensured African American's right to vote.

After the Act was passed African American vote and African American participation in the government grew a lot.
