What do I do about a lying coworker? |
We hired a new guy at work, and to make a long story short, we've discovered that he's lying about pretty much everything: education history , etc. What should we do? The thing is that the stuff he's lying about doesn't have anything to do with the job; he's not lying about qualifications. I'm just afraid later on, he'll lie about something work-related and cause a huge mess. Have a confidential talk with your boss. Have only factual documentation in-hand... no hearsay or suspicions. Once you've given them the info then let them handle it. But be careful that before you do everything in your back yard is in-order. Things like this tend to have a boomerang effect. put him or her down the road does the human resources dept ( if you have one) know about this, i think its called falsification of some sorts on an application. that may be one way to get rid of the liar Look him straight in the eye I am not lying your FIRED. I THINK CONFRONTING HIM IS THE BEST WAY TO GO IT WILL GIVE HIM A CHANCE TO EXPLAIN WHY OR IT WILL LET HIM KNOW YOU ARE ON TOHIM MAYBE HE IS JUST TRYING TO FIT IN You might as well roll over and take it up the ?!&%. In my personal experience it is impossible to fight a liar/manipulator. They're very good at what they do. It's really hard for an honest person to go anywhere when they are up against a liar. Just make sure you've not made any mistakes and you have no skeletons in your closet. Even then it's gonna be tough. After all, this person is a liar. If you are not in a position of authority, I would be careful with that information, because it may end up with you being asked "Why were you doing research on Joe Blow?". If you are friends with someone with authority, then you may be able to bring it up. Human Resources should have discovered by now he's lying. |
