Ok how about this .Why is it not my right to smoke Marijuana in the privacy of my home but I can drink..beer?

let's say for example I grow my own (can't say I'm supporting terrorist )
I'm not out stealing.
I'm not abusing my wife or child.
I'm not driving around the town stoned.
I work 45-50 hours a week.
I just want to know with all the drinking and driving that goes on "What makes someone who drinks alcohol a more responsible person then one who smokes Marijuana?

There isn't any difference. People who drink , but do not support legalization of marijuana are hypocrites.
I like to remind those folks of prohibition.

You ask two question, actually. the first, about your "right" 6turns on the law. Marijuana is illegal. you have no "right" under the Constitution to smoke it in opposition to the laws that have been enacted and upheld. you ned to work to get the laws changed (hard to do if you're stoned, but give it a shot). As for in your own home, you have the Constitutional right to protection against unreasonable searches. Unless the cops have probable cause (in the opinion of the cops and the court, not you) to enter your home, you can toke away. But if they have cause to enter, you're busted.

Your second question is "What makes someone who drinks alcohol a more responsible person then one who smokes Marijuana?" I agree, they aren't.

My personal view: we should repeal all laws on drugs, booze, MJ, and hard drugs. Legalize it, make it commerically available, and tax it. Just like with bars, set up places where you can consume on premises. Have licensing and health inspections. Turn loose all the people in prison who are there on possession-only charges.

Many oxymorons on this topic. I agree about the drinking and driving. The parking lots of bars are full, while people are drinking legal alcoholic beverages, often to excess. It's obvious that many of the consumers do not have a "designated driver", as the cars peel out for home or the next bar.
Yet we promote the businesses that serve alcohol for a living. Alcohol product commercials on the same channel that the state gov'ts use to advertise the severity of the legal consequences of DUIs. Go figure.

No one ever said someone who drinks and drives is a more responsible person than one who smokes weed in the privacy of their own home. Then again, there are a lot of things in this world that result in a "that's not fair" situation. It's an illegal drug where as beer isn't and those who drink and drive do suffer the same consequences as those who get high.

because if you smoke it regularly you end up paranoid as ****! :P beer you just end up feeling bloated, fat and slightly tipsy..or if you're talking about american beer then perfectly sober and very dissapointed. Hard liquor is where its at baby! :P

I do get where you're coming from though, it is ridiculous, but then if alcohol was invented today there's no way it would be legal...i guess booze is just in our culture and traditions more than weed?

I agree with you all the way on this one. Marijuana has never killed a person due to substance abuse, although it does cause health concerns, still those health concerns are considerably smaller than those of cigarettes. Did you know that coffee has more potentially harmful chemicals than Marijuana? (I had to give an informative speech about it in my Comm 120 class...) I think programs like DARE need the plug pulled on them. They are not informing our youth, just scarring them with supposed consequences.

If I didnt know better-I'd swear I wrote this question. I'm a psychiatric nurse who has worked on alcohol and substance abuse units for 30 years. In that whole time,I never had to detox anyone from marijuana and never had anyone overdose on it. Not many murders are committed by a pot smoker. I could go on and on. My feelings about smoking pot in the home is,myob and I'll mind mine.

there is no answer. goverment is behind in the times. you can die before you can drink... and you arent ever allowed to smoke weed! STUPID

the laws will be changing in the upcoming years. look at cali for example.

Marijuana is still considered illegal, regardless of how responsible you are otherwise.
I do agree with you, but it is what it is.

Driving under the influence of either is illegal. Possession and using MJ is just illegal. Beer is not. No cop I know of will accept your feeble argument.

the only reason marijuana is illegal is because the government can not put taxes on it. I don't think its harmful, all these bullst commercials on tv. Much more people get killed by alcohol.

either way it's all the same...but be quiet, if it becomes legal the quality is gonna go way down.....

We demand it be made legal to have and use small amounts in your own home! Oh and you also have to be able to transport it home!

Good point, I live in Alaska, so I can (legally) smoke peacefully in my own home. I just can't get caught buying it or grow it. wtf?

you need help isn't marijuana illegal

nothing, its the way society perceives stuff that makes things better or worse.

We all have been asking that same question for years! A lot of people would say because weed is a gateway drug or something stupid like that!

hmm i do anyways

Good question.

who said you cant

It doesn't. There is so much wrong with America

There is really no legitimate reason you shouldn't, the government just says you cant, when in all reality you should be able to, the only thing I can think of bad, would be the second hand smoke, you dont want to subject your family to that, or subject children to weed which can cause damage to still growing bodies, and lets face it, its hard to hide drug use from children especially teenagers and I have from experience gotten into parents stashes at friends house.

also for everyone that wants it to be legal, it really wouldnt be that much greater if it was, it would still be illegal to smoke in public, or drive under the influence, just like alchohol because of its impairing effects. The price of weed would go way up with major companies creating a monopoly like with cigarettes, the average quality wouldnt be as high, and it would be TAXED.
the only upside being, no tickets or jail time, unless selling to minors, or without a permit, etc. etc. basically the same as selling alchohol/cigarettes, and I dont plan on getting in trouble for smoking weed and growing my own responsibly so Im fine with it staying illegal.

oh and just so people realize, buying weed is not perfectly harmless as most of the money we spend on it does go to less then savory people, ie gangsters and terrorists who could care less about the people and only about the money
