Personal injury lawyers please help! what are the laws regarding safety glass in showers?

a couple months ago after a long night of drinking my sister ended up going home with one of the guys that was with the group of friends we were with. they ended up in the shower, where he was sitting on a built-in glass bench (installed as part of the shower - he as a contractor had installed it). so he's sitting on bench and she's on her knees... the glass bench collapsed and shattered into shards cutting his butt and slicing her leg down to the bone (multiple lacerations). the paramedics had to transportt her by ambulance to thehops itall where she had to have a 4 hour repair surgery. she spent 4 days in the hospital, was instructed not to drive for 6 weeks, left the hospital with a full leg cast. after weeks of him not offering to help with medical bills or anything we talked her into talking to a lawyer. it's been two months and she's still in a leg brace, can hardly drive, has ongoing physicaltherapyy, horrible scars. he told her he didn't have homeowners' insurance when he found out she may sue. since he was the contractor, would his general liability insurance cover it under his businesss? note that his home also his office. what happens if she sues and he doesn't have insurance? what are the laws on safety glass in bathrooms? any other thoughts or advice appreciated. thanks for your time.

Federal law requires that shower doors and walls be made of tempered safety glass. Safety glass, however, is not unbreakable and is not made to withstand all types of use or misuse. Damages for injuries sustained while frolicking drunk on a glass bench would likely be a hard case to win in court.

It was HIS house? Parents??? I am sure everybody who owns a home should have insurance. I think he only trying to fluff her off! The lawyer should contact his insurance, and I will bet he has one!! Maybe, because of the embarassing position they were in, when the accident happened! He doesn't want it broadcast to the world!! Is he married!?? If it's his parents house, how did he explain the broken glass in the shower!! That's what you get for fooling around in strange places! LOL!!! Anyway, regardless, both of them are going to fess up in court, considering the injuries they sustained!! If by some small chance he DOESN'T have insurance, she can sue him through his business!

All i can say is that if i was the Judge you would lose...because first sounds like they were doing nastys in the shower...meaning it was there own fault..there would of been warning do not sit on glass bench...
its like standing on a roof and leaning on a antenna and falling and blaming the installation person..i would just leave it to rest and glad your sister is ok...
