If I buy a new vehicle before my divorce is final can she try to claim it? |
We are separated and living in different households, my divorce probably won't be final for another 2-3 months. However I am starting a new job in 3 weeks and I want to buy a new vehicle before a lose my employee discount and my current job because it will save me a lot of money. Can she try to claim it? What if it is financed, assuming she did get it would she take over responisbility for the loan? We live in Colorado. Pretty much once the actual property settlement statement has been filed, you are ok; I wouldn't until then The divorce filing date would be the determining factor, unless she was the one who filed, if so she could withdraw the petition and start the process over, you know her better than anyone what extremes do you think she would go to, since the date of purchase would be after you were no longer residing at the same residence and the vehicle would be in your name exclusively then it is unlikely she would have a legal claim, if you have a divorce lawyer then that would be the best source for advise>~ It all depends... |
