What exactly is a citation for possession of a controlled substance? |
My son and his friend received a citation for possession of a controlled substance (1 joint) in Missouri? My son was told that there is a $325 fine and that it will not appear on any records. The last part is critical to me as he receive 100% grant funding for his college and I am a single parent on tolal disability. How serious is a citation? Is it less than a misdemeanor? marijuana....as far as I know is not a controlled substance...it is an illegal substance...it used to be prescribed for glaucoma patient,s...but it has been banned...a few patient,s still remain on the list of prescribed user,s....that may be why they still consider it a controlled substance...it would not be less than a misdemeanor ..it would be at least that....check with a lawyer as to the amount of minimum fine,s & length of recording...it vary,s from state to state....in either case..he obtained it illegally...some state,s weigh the charge depending on quantity. A citation is the equivalent of a traffic ticket. It means you broke the law, but have not been convicted of a crime. Citations for controlled substances do not affect your eligibility for federal student aid and need not be included when asked if you have been convicted of any crimes, unless the form specifically asks for citations. |
