Disability checks question?

If you receive disability checks, are you allowed to have a checking account? My uncle has 1k saved up in his checking account, and is afraid that his disability checks will stop because of this. Does it matter?

Yes,you can have a checking account.
If he gets regular disability from SS,it doesn't matter how much he has in the bank.
If he receives SSI,then having that much money in his account might make a difference.

SSDI is not asset sensitive. If he has medicaid or food stamps assets coun t and 1k of cash assets is the max allowed. If his cash assets go over 1k these will be suspended until it is 1k or less.
