Pregnancy, C-Section and Short term disability? |
I am a mother of one, expecting another in November. I am not married. I have been working at my job under a year and will be having a C-Section. My work does not pay for Maternity Leave... will I qualify and how would I apply for Short Term Disability in Washington State? I am just looking for income for the 8 weeks I expect to be out of work. Thank you all so much. Fortunately I do have a very supportive signifigant other, I am just used to bringing in my own income. If your employer does not offer short-term disability insurance, there is no government program that will give it for post-partum recovery. In order to qualify as disabled for SSA benefits, you must expect to be disabled for at least a year. Washington state has no other disability payments offered. If you do have short-term disability insurance, it must cover maternity leave like any other medical condition. Other than that, you are guaranteed 12 weeks (unpaid) FMLA leave as long as the other requirements are met. hello dear. im so sorry its come downt to this for you.. im pretty sure there is no money ways to this.. my friend jsut had a c section and she had to quite her job and all cuase she has a two year old and now a three month old and we went through that disability process too. and they told us it was her chouce to get pregnant and that its not a disablilty and she will jsut have to look for support from her family.. i know it sounds crappy but its true.. look to churches and what not or the daddies father.. i hope this helps You can use FMLA but that is unpaid and is up to 12 weeks offered to pregnany woman (as well as other circumstances). |
