I have a disability that makes it hard to climb stairs, am moving to place with elevator, can I break lease? There might be some special law in place, but in general the answer is no. The lease gives you the right to use the place and is not dependent on your desire to use the place. That being said, if the disability arose after you signed the lease you can probably negotiate with the landlord for a release. On the other hand, if you had the disability and saw the place but elected to rent it anyway, you may expect resistance. Did you have the disablity when you signed the lease, if so then ,NO ,you are still tied to the lease as you knew the conditions/situation for housing when you signed...If the disability is new ,so you can no longer climb stairs, then you can get out of the lease without penalty ,just discuss it with your landlord/agency . If you just want to move because you found a better/more to your liking ,situation you'll be forced to pay the lease penalty to get out IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR LANDLORD TECHNICALY NO BUT SOMETIMES THEY ARE GOOD ABOUT THINGS LIKE THESE AND LET THEM SLIDE. |
