Does a construction company have the right to ask a ex employee to leave site as he working as a subcontractor

Yes.

The General Contractor in charge of the project has the right to hire whatever subcontractors they want. If the subcontractor insists on using you at that job site against the wishes of the General Contractor, then the General Contractor can simply "fire" the subcontractor and find a different company. Because of that, the subcontractor most likely will tell you that you will not be working that job and they will assign you to work at some other job site.

Off hand I would say the employee did something that really pissed off the General Contractor and he does not want that person around in any capacity.

Yes. The main contractor is responsible for the site and their managers have the right to decide who can and cannot enter it. They don't even have to give a reason.
