Speeding Ticket advice?

I received the first ticket in my life the other day. I was driving through a construction zone, and I admit, I was not paying attention to the speed limit. There were no construction workers present, but there were signs and barrels and whatnot. The police officer told me that she clocked me accelerating from 41-47 in a 35. She was kind enough to write it for 40 in a 35.

On the ticket there are three options: 1) admit responsibility. 2) Admit responsibility w/ explanation. 3) Deny responsbility.

My question is, given my safe driving history of 12 years, should I contest this altogether or admit fault with an explanation. Honestly, I was not aware of the speed limit in the zone, but I know that doesn't justify my speeding. However, I'd like to think that my history of driving safely might impact the penalty in some way. This is for 3 points and $120. I am not concerned with cost nearly as much as the points.

Anyone's help is greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Call the Court Clerk's Office to where you
are supposed to show up to...and ask
if there is anyway you can get it reduced...
Driving School etc...You still have to show up in Court...
The Judge will have a print out of your Driving record
in front of him...
Some will reduce it to a non moving violation...
You still Pay the fine plus Surcharges
(The surcharges can be as much or more then the Fine)
But then again you don't have it on your driving record...

Then you go to a Safe Driver Class such as AAA has...
Get the Certificate of Completion...
Send a Copy to your Insurance Company...
They reduce your Insurance premium for 3 years...
(They reduce mine by $141.00 per year)

GOOD LUCK !!!!

Please Drive Defensively !!!!

Ignorance is no excuse. You were speeding and got caught. Pay your fine and be thankful that she only wrote you up for 40 and not 47. Also be glad that it's not "fines double in work zone".

If you feel that you're entitled to a break because of your perfect history then go ahead and go to court and fight the ticket.

I think you should deny the speeding ticket. You are person who has lots of experience in driving. If I was me I would tell them my reasons for not paying for the speeding ticket. If you deny it you will keep your money and not have a speeding ticket on your record.

Go to court - the judge will definitely reward you for showing up (typically by lowering the points and/or fine). If you honestly did not know the speed limit, go to court and provide an explanation. Don't even think about lying to the judge though....they then take the attitude that you think they are stupid and take it out on you!
