NJ family/kid care, insurance coverage q?, VERY CONFUSED PLEASE HELPPP!!?

My daughter was born in July 07 and at that time I was never asked to provide any info aout her father or sign anything to allow the state to collect support. Since then I have heard that you must now sign a form to maintain/get medicaid if pregnant and for your child/children. Here's my problem and Q. Me and my daughters father are very much together and engaged. We are not married because he still receives medical beneftis from his mother. Hw works full time for his dads construction company, which dosn't offer him insurance. I dont want to call and ask because if these regulations have changed I dont want him to be forced to pay support to the state since he obviuosly already supports me and our daughter (i work in the summer full time and am still a full time student the rest of the year, he also is a full time stident). I am also not elligable for insurance coverage at my job.

We are thinking about having another child for 2 major reasons. One because we've always each wanted our children close together and 2 becaue if we were to have another one this would then allow us to get married and recieve insurance benefits through our children. We can't do this now because with just our daughter he makes something like 20$ too much SOME months. However he is not sallery with his father and his yearly income is below the level for us to be covered under just our daughter. So basically I am asking if 1) we have another kid before we are married how do I avoid suing him for support since we are engaged and living together (in NJ just to clarify), 2) if we don't have another child how do we switch to NJ family care from medicaid and get coverage for us both under my daughter so we can get married.

Also we wont be on state insurance for like years and years 1-2 more at the most until i graduate and can get benefits for us all. So please no rude comments.

This is not easy, but you can try this: talk to your boyfriend to see if his dad would be willing to purchase insurance for your child---since his dad is self-employed there is the possibility to purchase on through the Chamber of Commerce at reasonable rates---it won't hurt to see if you can be added to that since you are the mother. Medicaid is a federal program and it really wants you to disclose your belongings and your life, it also will go after the father if you sign. However, I would say that you will need something in writing from him that he acknowledges his daughter and will support her(it has to be notarized to be valid-can be done at most banks for free), the reason being this: if something would happen to the father of your daughter(i.e., accident w. disability or death), then you will have a much easier time to secure benefits for your child(or later children)from Social Security. We often do not think about these things when we are young, but accidents happen every day and we need to make sure that our children are taken care of.

Another option for insurance might be school. Since you are a full time student, check into your schools policy and see if they offer some sort of insurance for you and the kids---some colleges/universities do have some programs.
Lastly, even though you both are still in school--you already have a child and plan to get another one---so why not get married and make it legal? This way you will not qualify for a few benefits under food stamps and medicaid---but in the long run, wouldn't that be a better option?? You'd have security, the kids would get his name, you might be able to find insurance elsewhere---so I would think about that too.....the bottom line is that you need to do what's best for your daughter first, and then what's best for you....Good luck
