What makes people want to con others out of their money?

Like those who send dishonest spam e-mails - the ones that say "YOUR EMAIL HAS WON $100,000", or, "My sincere wishes, Dear". or "Contact my secretary" in the subject line. These are obvious cons - usually from people who live in foreign countries.
Doesn't this irritate anyone else?
I actually had one guy write me on my blog page after I posted a blog about not appreciating the things some people stoop to to scam others out of their money, and the things some people will do to try to con someone in Canada or the US into marriage, just because they want a visa. The guy told me it wasn't the fault of the people doing these things, because computers are a new technology for many, and they are like a kid in a candy store with the internet. He actually blamed the West for their corrupt technology making his people dishonest.
That is a big load of crap, in my opinion. I couldn't imagine conning anyone like that, and don't understand how others can - and still sleep at night.

That doesn't answer "WHY" people would want to do it, or whether it bothers anyone else?
I, myself, can't imagine doing those kinds of things to others.
And, I couldn'[t imagine blaming another culture for the scams someone is committing - because that is a character deficiency, not a cultural flaw from another country. (Did I make myself clear, or just confuse the issue?)
Maybe I should have asked what character trait I would have to kill in myself to understand a want of doing something like that to another human being.

Greed... The people who are running those scams are wanting something for nothing, just like the people who think they are getting something for nothing. Its the greed of people who make them fall into the scammers trap. I mean, You have $100,000 waiting for you, however, the scammer needs a small fee of $500. They are just wanting the $500, but you think you can make $99,500 in profit, but then what ends up happening, you never see that money, or the money is tied up and they will require more money. People pay it, thinking the extra $500 will still net them $99,000.

The scammers all should burn. I love the scam baiter sites out there that play the scammers. They scam the scammers time, and keep them busy doing stipud things. I have read where these scam baiters actually had a guy travel on the scammers expense because the scammer is just as greedy, and they will sometimes go to great lengths to get thier small fortune.

They are people who are dishonest and lack any conscious. They're also too lasy to have a real job and would rather make a quick buck by scamming some else.

Look into scam baiting, its when you trick scammers into wasting time or even give you money. It's awesome.

the love of money makes them do it. Also the lack of any morals or character.

Scum people do scummy things

personal greed and an uncarringness about others, some like doing it for the pleasure of harming others though, they are sadists
