Is it ethical by websites to feature ads without warning first? |
For some, this is a moot point. But if I wanted to stop receiving advertisement in my (snail)mail I'd only need to put a sticker on my postbox. Should this principle be expanded to cover information sent to my computer through the internet? THe difference is you went to them; they didn't go to you as in the mailbox Nope. They are not coming to you. You are going to them. If we followed your proposal to it's logical conclusion, advertising signs along the road would have to turn themselves off if you choose not to se them as you drove by. As far as e-mail goes, there are such laws in place already. Good luck trying to contact the agencies sending you the e-mails. Most of them hire good programmers to cloak their identity. It is called advertising and supports the cost of running a website. Has nothing to do with ethics. |
