What's the best way to keep subliminal material out of computer and television technologies ?

The use of subliminal advertising is supposed to be illegal because it is immoral, but it seems some people are still at it.

It seems to be impossible to suppress it, as we are unaware of its presence and its use could be very indirect. It is indeed immoral and used by the wrong people could have the most devastating effect on people's minds. Horifyingly, it could be contained in spam messages. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/health/642795...

There is no evidence - BUY MY PRODUCTS - to suggest that people are using subliminal material - OUR PRODUCTS ARE REALLY GREAT - on the Internet.

Seriously, though, TV is relatively simple - enough people have Sky+ or other PVRs that can do frame-by-frame scanning that anyone broadcasting on TV would almost certainly end up being caught. That's, AIUI, how the Australian's caught out Network 10 last year.

At the moment, Internet video, at least on the mainstream sites, isn't high enough quality. I suspect that, if it becomes an issue, the bigger 'net video sites will develop "anti-sub" filters the same way they have anti-spam.

The technologies already exist to detect the kinds of video artefacts used.

the problem is that it's extremely difficult to detect...and even in standard advertising, there is always a subliminal element...I think the most blatant example is McDonalds' and FoodNetwork's little deal...the best remidy is to combat consumer ignorance, and promote the use of purchasing power.

Can you post a link to your evidence please
