What are my rights when a merchant's computer program goes haywire and takes money from my account every day!

I made a purchase at a restaurant two weeks ago. While checking my statement online yesterday, I was horrified to discover that they'd been debiting my VISA check card account every single day since for the same amount. When I called, the manager told me it was a central processing problem with the parent company's new program, something they were trying to fix. She gave me a number to call, but also told me the woman responsible for corrections is not even going to be in the office today! I am livid! I was initially alerted to the problem when I saw a refund from the restaurant on my statement, and I investigated. So, obviously, the company is already aware that my account has an issue. Problem is that the refund was not for the total amount they've overcharged me! The other problem is that this missing money mess has now created other problems for me. Do I have any recourse? If I'd written a bad check, they would've charged me a fee for sure! Can I legally charge THEM a fee???

Just to clarify, this was a debit card, not a credit card, so they literally have my money!

Call the number on the back of your card now and tell them it has been comprised. Tell them you want the card hot listed immediately as if it was lost. Then go into you bank to dispute all of the charges tomorrow and tell them you had your debit card hot listed . You can still get credit even after your card is hot listed. Then report the merchant to Visa or MasterCard. Whichever you have on the card. You can also make the bank aware of the signature required policy of Mastercard and/or Visa for purchases over $50.00. (Some places it is $25.00)

First, notify your credit card company, as they may not penalize you for the restaurants mistake. Also, insist on getting a complete refund from the restaurant. If they refuse, contact a lawyer.
