What would be a reason for the cops to question you on computer harrassment.?

Ok here it is, my best friend sent emails to this girl and this girl is psycho. The emails were not harrassing, or threatning in any way. My friend had a diffrent identity on the internet while he was emailing this girl. There was never any threats or violence involved. Now, he is telling me over the phone that he thinks the police are going to question him! He called me bc I am a bit more savy about the law, but I have no idea why they would go investigate him. He's showed me all the emails between them and most of them are of them two getting to know each other, jokes and the most recent ones are the ones where they dont want to hear from each other and he calls her a liar. Is this harrassment? The thing is, that I think this girl already knows where he resides bc she is hacker savy. What would it take for the law to investigate him? I mean, he didnt do anything wrong. At least I dont think so.

If she called and gave reasonable cause for them to look into it (they have a different point of view and responsibility then the involved parties including you when they make that decision), then they will look into it.

If, after looking into it, they feel there is no case, they will let it drop, probably with an explanation to everyone that maybe they shouldn't be communicating at all.

OTOH, if they feel like crime was committed, and they work in the place with jurisdiction over the crime, and they can put together a sufficient case to prove it in a criminal court, then they will present it to the DA who will probably file charges.

Just a heads up -

it won't help just because your friend used a false identity 0- the crime will be by the person, not the identity, nor will it help if the threat is implied instead of covert.

Of course, maybe your friend is just gullible and scared because the girl is bluffing about calling the police.

Either way, it sounds like to me to just drop communicating with her using any identity. Their are plenty of other people to communicate with :)
