How can it be fair for police to pose as minors and make first contact with men .?

entrapment & enticement are an awful lot alike. If police are in adult chatrooms this is not fair, especially when they contact men first. No one can get a fair trial thanks to dateline. Lawyers can roll over and play dead this is a no winner. 10 years for a no contact crime at 29,000 per person. Do the math. Schools or prisons? Why pay federal judges when the time is mandatory? I just can't figure this out-I know all about child molesters as 30% of the women i know were molested in youth. By ministers brothers grandfathers neighbors. With this internet crime you are guilty untill proven inocent, and a lot of families are suffering for what? talking to a computer.

I find it frightening when you can be convicted of a crime for just thinking about it.
By the way, if a 15 year old girl goes on line and pretends she's 18, is that a crime?

That is legal, and I think most people would consider it very fair.

Simply asking or suggesting someone do something illegal is not entrapment. They may make the suggestion, but the decision is yours. And you will be held accountable for that decision.

i'll answer your question when you can get me to change my thinking about how i would really like too see these sick pieces of work be made to pay for their degrading, disgusting, downright heinous treatment of children.i think they ought to be castrated if convicted, and if they do it again, they ought to be emasculated, leaving just enough of a unit to pee out of.And if they use theirhands to do it yet again, then i say cut them off , throw the sick units into a cage with deranged homosexual rapists and tell them to have fun.
As extreme as it sounds, we are talking about children who are being victimized. And the sick monkeys doing this stuff can change if they make the effort. But if they don't change, then hey, hey, they need to pay.

Wait a minute, so you're trying to say that it's ok and "fair" with you for child molesters and predators to be in chatrooms with the sole purpose of enticing young victims, just not for the police to use themselves as lure to these sickos and then capture them in the act?????

I have no idea what your idea of fair is, but I do seriously wonder how fair you think it is when children are lured through internet communications and completely false profiles with the sole purpose of sexual encounters. We're talking "immature children" here who are not accountable. But adults are.

I think you're focus is misplaced. You're looking at dedicated police officers who work their butts off at purposely placing themselves in the path of such people to bring them out of the shadows to prevent harm to someone's child, possibly your own, and you have a problem with the "fairness" of that and also have a hard time believing that this kind of predator really does exist. Hmmmmmmmmm, Dear God I hope you or your own or your family's children don't frequent chat rooms with your naiete, you make perfect targets.

Note to another poster ponusjoe: Contrary to your premise, there's not a whole lot wrong with pretending to be 18 when you're actually only 15. It's only chatting after all. It's when the 'chatting' turns to seduction and clandestine meetings that results in sexual contact with an underage minor, that is still called predatory statutory rape. Children are children, the burden falls upon the full grown men who do this and have enough maturity to know exactly what they are doing.
Maybe it's the men who need to grow up and try "real women of their own age" instead of messing with somebody's children.

Everyone wants to protect our children and police are doing a tough job with whatever tools are at their disposal.

I don't know what the laws are in each state but I think any adult that goes beyond talk and tries to make contact with a minor for sex should be prosecuted.

The one thing I will agree with is that if you are not guilty it may be difficult to prove your innocence . Is this personnel and if so what happened?

There's nothing illegal about typing messages to someone believed to be underage.

The law steps in when the typist wants to become a rapist.

The definition of entrapment is very clear:

Entrapment is when a suspect is enticed into committing an offence he or she would not otherwise have committed.

That's why in online luring cases, the law enforcement officer never suggests any illegal activities.

It's always the pervert.

HTH.
