Someone taped my converstaions in NY who do I report this to?

my girl friends soon to be X while not living in the house recorded on his computer over 300 conversation where he was not a party to who do I report him too.

First of all he was never a party on the conversation he was recording all the conversation VIA a wire tap in his soon to be x wifes house. He was trying to see if she was cheating. Because he was cheating with his beat friends wife.

It is perfectly legal for someone to record a conversation, IF they are part of it. The two parties is you and the person you are talking to. As long as one of you know it's being recorded, nothing can be done. BUT...on the other hand, if someone else was recording it, it is invasion of privacy. Call you local FCC in your state, and if you have the proof..NOT HERSAY, you can report it to the police. Possible charges is invasion of privacy, illegal wire taping, and possibly stocking.

Hmm..to the police I think.

Why do you want to report him? With just the information you have given I do not think you can report to anyone. Was his computer in the house? was it a notebook? Did he place recording devices throughout the house? You may be able to do something, but more detail is needed to determine this and if so whether it is worth your time to try.

He might be with the FBI,and tried to get with your freind inorder to here your conversations.

contact a lawyer not the cops.

FCC

check with an attorney in your state because in some states it is illegal to record a telephone conversation with out the knowledge of everyone involved. that why when your on the phone withe certain business they tell you this call may be recorded for quality assurance purposes and to my knowledge they only people who can legally place phone taps is law enforcement and they need permission from a judge and have to have probable cause. because this violates your right to privacy whether it was your home being bugged or the home you phoned. remember Monica Lewinsky and friend Linda Tripp Linda recorded their phone conversations and that's how bill got caught. also Linda was prosecuted for recording the calls without Monica's knowledge

Its perfectly legal to record telephone conversations between two people as long as one of the parties is aware it is being recorded, on the other hand third party recording is against the law.
You would contact the FBI via the FBI Special Agent in charge, which you will find in the federal portion of your phone directories government listings.
In addition to the federal laws governing these issues , it is also a violation of several statutes of homeland security, again the Special Agent in charge will handle all that,(special agent in charge is a title , it is just one person)or delegate it to another field agent to handle.
It is important that you have some proof of this allegation , as the FBI does not take kindly to wasting time on false allegations generated from domestic incompatibilities.
Good luck, and if you have proof , contact the person I told you to ASAP,they can and will help.
P.S. the FCC and Local Police can not and will not be of any help to you in this matter, neither has jurisdiction, authority or resources as this is a federal violation and is under the jurisdiction of the FBI and no other agency.

CONTACT A LAWYER, THERE IS SUCH A THING AS PRIVACY. HE HAD NO RIGHT TO RECORD HER WITHOUT HER PERMISSION, ESPECIALLY IN HER HOUSE. I WOULD THINK HE NOT ONLY BROKE THE LAW WITH INVASION OF PRIVACY, BUT BY BREAKING AND/OR ENTERING WITHOUT HER KNOWLEDGE.. HMMMMMM... CALL A ATTY. GOOD LUCK

Any information he obtained from this action is not admisible in court as evidence against you. Try the Attorney General.
