Child Pornography After having a bunch of people over...?

Hi, I just had a bunch of people over at my house. When I just got on my computer about a few minutes ago I found that a file with an extension that looked to be child pornography downloading in limewire. It was about 74% complete. I canceled the download asap, but am worried about it becoming an issue with police or something... Do I have anything to worry about or what? I am pretty freakin pissed off that someone would download such a thing at my house. I have no clue who it would've been because I had a lot of people over. So do I have to worry or should I be ok?

I say get ahead of the ball on this one and take your computer into the police station and tell them your suspicions.

Yes, the mere act of having child pornography on your computer is a crime, however, because you are bringing it to their attention, they won't do anything to you.

Child pornography is one of the worst possible crimes anyone can commit. The mere fact that one of your "friends" possibly did this should really make you see if you can find out who was responsible. I wouldn't want this person for a friend and I would do everything in my power to make sure they were punished for their crimes.

If you don't go to the police now, and the police track the pornography to your computer, you're going to have a hard time proving that it wasn't you.

And don't think it isn't possible. Over 700 child pornographers were just arrested internationally through a world-wide investigation.

better hope it is not child pornography for it is a strict liability offense which means just having it on your computer is a crime within it self,

I would call the police myself. You are just as much of a victim. Plus, if they do investigate someone and that someone tells them it's on your computer too, wouldn't you already have the cops know and have had them delete it completely.

ALSO, aren't you sickened that someone did this, not only in your house, but at all? The people at your house need to be questioned and let known that one of them did this. Some may have children of their own and wouldn't you feel horrible if you said nothing and their child ended up being harmed by another friend of yours?

i don't really think that the police are going to come by bashing in the door because of a 74% downloaded child porn. People who they arrest for child porn don't usually have one video they have like hundreds. While people who watch child porn are a serious problem, the bigger problem is the people who make it. So while it is sick I don't think the police will actively seek you out.

However, to be on the safe side I would agree with others, take the hard drive to the police. Either you have a friend who is into child porn, or you have a friend who is trying to set you up to take a fall. Either way you need to know who.
