Why is it illegal to throw litter on the street, yet when garbage men drop it all over, that is OK?

I tell them they are dropping garbage all over and they smile and shrug. I ask them to clean up their mess and they say it is not part of their job. Why is this ok for them but I face up to a $200 fine? This is what I pay them for, garbage collection not garbage spilling. What can I do when no one is listening??

Call your municipality, your local paper, and the local AM talk-radio station. Conservative radio goes nuts for this kind of thing and you'll get a lot of support.



EDIT: The obvious defense to this behaviour is that garbage going everywhere is almost always the fault of the homeowner who over-stuffs their bags or doesn't secure them properly, being fully aware that bags and cans are swung into the trucks and not gently placed. In that case, I do agree that it isn't the job of the garbage men to clean up after people who can't be bothered to secure their trash.

Talk to your neighbours.

It is illegal for anybody to throw litter out into the streets. It is also illegal for garbage men to drop things into the streets without picking it up.
