I needed to get a pap smear? |
for cheap as I don't have any money so I called around. I got a doc who said they charge 50-130.00 for one. I get there, do the pap and pay 90.00. I get home they call me-tell me I have an std(tell my my husband has cheated on me) and tell me to go get medicine. I go get it. The next day they call me back and tell me I dont have the std-just bacterial vaginosis which is just a yeast infection. I go get the medicine for that. I call and request a refuind for the first medicine They send it=it takes 3 weeks. It appears the pap smear cost $90 but they they had to do some extra lab work because of the infection. My guess is that if you look at what you signed you'll see it says you pay additional for additional lab work. If it does, try calling them & working out a payment plan. My reccomendation is to get a job. If you have one, get a better one that pays more or offers benefits. If you cannot get one, go back to school. Lab work costs money - do you know how much that equipment costs? People not paying their bills is the reason health care costs more for the rest of us. How could you be married, and between you and your husband, not have 220 dollars for medical expenses? i go through this all the time with doctors.. as long as you are sending them 10 dollars a month they cant take you to court or report you because you are attempting to pay... eventually it will get paid off... beleive me i do that all the time. Take them to small claims court. Get any documentation you can together then grill the bastards. Can't help but wonder if you could countersue for punitive damages due to misdiagnosis. Call a family planning clinic or planned parenthood. They have programs for women who have little or no money or insurance. Go for it today. Send them a minimum of $10.00 per month. They cannot take you to collections as long as you are making an effort to pay your bill. The problem is you don't have anything in writing to confirm what they were going to charge you for their services, so you're stuck paying what they say you owe. BOTTOM LINE: Don't argue with them, but tell the folks in billing that you simply cannot afford to pay the whole thing right now. They may give you a hard time, but by law they have to work with you as long as you're trying to pay. |
