I'm receiving collection letters for my father who is now handicapped, I'm his sole provider. He has no income.

How do I stop the collections. I do not have power of attorney.

I'm just his daughter.

Is he well enough to give you power of attorney. Can he sign a letter if you type it up for him.

Under the law, if you write them a letter telling them to stop contacting you about the debt, they must do so, with a few exceptions. All he really needs to do is sign it.

ignore them. The only way they could collect is to garnish his wages Since he has no job they cannot do that. I some cases they could put a lien on the house.

if he has no income and negligible assets he can file for bankruptcy
