Legal Advice Needed and Greatly Appreciated? |
My friend joined a sorority in Fall of 07. She stopped going after the first meeting and thought that the sorority assumed she had dropped out. After a meeting, she was supposed to sign a "membership suspension form". However, the meeting was delayed and stalled by them for 2 quarters. Now, they're claiming she has to pay for the 2 quarters of membership. I was with her and with some advice from an attorney friend, i told her not to sign the promissory note. During the meeting, they were pressuring her to sign the note. One thing they did was tell her that they would put a bad note on her transcript, preventing her from getting to med school. They've sent the debt to collections, and we're sure that they will take us to court. However, we believe that we can threaten to press charges for coercion. If we threaten this, we might me able to have them settle with us.What evidence might we need to actually threaten this, as i know that hearsay wouldn't hold up well in court or as a threat. You never stated whether or not she signed the promisory note. hmm. how did this end up being the best answer. Oh, i see... one vote. Well, i thought it would be obvious. If we signed the note, why would i even be having this dispute?? Report It IF NO BEMEFIT WAS RECIEVED...SUCH AS HOUSING OR THE LIKE...YOU HAVE NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT...ASK FOR ANY SIGNED DOCUMENTS THAT INDICATE SHE OBLIGED HERSELF TO MAKE ANY PAYMENT OF ANY KIND. Sorority girls are sluts arent they? The only evidence you would have is that sorority girls are prostitutes, yet dont get paid, usually. Why do you say "we" as though you are party to any of this? Threaten with a lawyer. If needed retain one and get a letter on the lawyers letterhead. Usually things are dropped at this point. |
