Should I pay the collection agency? what is the worst they can do now?

i seriously hate the collection agency .. here is my story ... last year i bought this website, i didnt know about termination fee . i asked them to cancel it . it was their fault they never listened and so the account continued on .. i had to pay them for the month then ... i didnt pay ..

they turned the case over to collection agency .. these people are so rude . half the time they did not even left me a call back number .. so after a month or so .. one of them finally did .. i called back and he said that they put the balance on my credit ... i got scared and then paid them in half/half ... the first transaction went through.. i told the guy when i half the other half i would give him a call and then he could charge me ... he still charged two days later .. the check bounced and i got charged 30 more dollars from their side ..

i hav been trying to explain them for awhile but they wont listen ... so my questions is I already paid for the website ... i hav to pay 30 more to them

the 30 more dollars that i have pay is on their side ,,, i owe the collection people that money t . if i dont pay them can they sue .. or ruin my credit even more ....

i am so pissed .. i am only 18 and they screwed me .... ...

yep unfortunately the 30 dollars is a fee because your check bounced.. never offer a post dated check.. they dont listen take this as a lesson and learn from it.. pay the 30 bucks (you may as well you already paid the rest of it) collection companies are generally not nice. they have a job to do and thats get the company's money.. unfortunately you found out the hard way how not to deal with them..

you should seek out the help of a financial advisor for this one. they would be able to help you fight them; you might even need to take this to court , be it small claims court or the big dogs. good luck to you!

Since you are obviously able to type, now is a good time to develop the habit of putting your business agreements in writing. When you cancelled, it should have been in writing. When you made the agreement about paying half now, half later, it should have been in writing.

Now it's just your word against theirs about your agreement. The worst they can do is sue you for the unpaid amount. They have already hit your credit.

Don't be stubborn about it and pay it, the collection agency can only worsen your credit,
better to pay them now, then later.

Well they can garnish your wages or withhold your income tax refund (if you have any money coming back). They can put this on your credit report and it will stay there for 7 yrs. or longer. You owed someone money, you need to pay. Sorry but if they have the means to get to your money, then they will, because they have every right to get their money back that you owe. Trust me, I learned all this the hard way myself. I hope everything works out for you. Consider this a lesson learned.

Yeah, youre definatly only 18. Why didnt you just pay in the first place? I mean if this happened last year, you werent paying that much for a website and if you were you are even dumber (weve had like 10 domain names and hosting for 3 years and pay like 50 total a year, so I know one domain and hosting couldnt have cost that much last year.......)

Second, you have no right to be pissed. Your account bounced. Look it is as lesson learned for the next time. Never give a collection agency any financial info or permission to take any money unless you can cover the whole thing because they will indeed take the whole thing.

The worst they can do is go to court and have your wages garnishes, and really, over 30$, youd be better off to just pay it because court costs are gonna be several hundred. The longer the delinquint bill stays on your credit the worse it looks. When you do settle the account, get in writing that they are removing the delinquincy from your negative credit. A lof of times they are very quick to report a delquincy, but very slow to report that your account is back in good standing. So even though it will show a 0 balance, it could still show as a negative account on your credit.

I suggest that you get a copy of your credit report and sit down with your parents or other trusted adult who knows a little abot credit and sort out what you should do.
