Can my landlord collect from me? |
I worked for this apart. complex and they had my info. name, ss#, etc all wrong in my resident file. I never changed my info. But I moved and there's still one month left on my fictitional lease. they filed an evition notice but not in my name or ss#. I was working and living at this apartment complex, and then it was sold. But the manager I was working for was being generous and made a fake lease so I could leave anytime I wanted to. will collections come after me, and legally can they without the correct name, ss#, and dob???? Yes, you are still liable for the rent money you owe regardless of what name you used on the lease. You actually lived there and thus are liable. It would be an unjust enrichment if you didn't have to pay. You have committed fraud, and if the name and other information you used belongs to someone else, identity theft as well. If you lived there - you owe them rent no matter what name or SS number you used. Boy Good Question. I work in a apartment complex and if they did a fake lease you might have to watch out and its for your own good and credit safety. You might want to allways watch you back on what info you put in and what type of papers they make you sign. Allways ask for copys even if you have to pay rent ask for a copy of your check or money order and in top of that request a receipt. If the apartment complex mngr wants to do any harm in the future to you this is HUD'S phone number 1-800-669-9777 Yes, they are entitled to whatever you own them. Furthermore, and I'm not saying any of this will happen, they could file against you for "deceptive practices." Try the site below for research on this issue. Make sure to change the location/state in which you reside. Hope this helps. |
