How can I stop getting harassing phone calls from a collection agency looking for someone I don't know? |
I don't want to change my number, I can't get the phone number from the people calling since it's an unknown caller (and I have private caller blocking), I've spoken to the police twice, district attorney's office, and attorney general's office, but there's nothing they can do without a phone number. The cops can't get the number, and for some reason, the phone company can't get the number because it's listed as an unknown caller. I've never heard of the person they've been calling for and it's gone on for two months, like clockwork at 8 in the morning. I can't file a written request for them to stop or consider most of the options offered by the FDCPA. All I know is they're a collection agency and they refuse to tell me who they are, the phone number of their company, or what they're calling about. I personally can't believe the phone company can't get their number, but is there anything else I can try? I've told them several times to take my number off their list, that they have the wrong information, and to stop calling me. They insist they have the right information. It doesn't help that the deadbeat they're looking for has the same last name as me. Ask your service provider how to block calls from a blocked number unless they unblock the number that they are calling from. Tell them your name and number and that its the wrong place. Tell them to take YOUR number off the list. Don't just say "Take me off your calling list" and hang up. You have to tell them the number. tell then that that person died. file a police report then take then the police can hve the phone company get the number and the phone company can get the number your phone co. sucks. you can block their number. switch service then. Have you tried telling them that they have the wrong number? Aside form that, I don't know what else to tell you. you have tried everything, change your phone number...and u will live happily ever after.... Say the person is not in.. and you can have him /her call back. The same thing happened to me! Probably not, are you sure its a real collection agency and not just prank callers try not answering private calls or maybe asking them to stop calling best thing to do is to just not answer. no, when they call you the first thing you ask is with what company is asking ? then you say you have the wrong number then tell them your name and that you now have their company name and the number is on your phone and if they dont stop calling your contacting the better business burreau, or immediately tell them they have wrong number and that if they are not going to stop calling you as of right now you would like to speak to their supervisor, I have done this many times. The next time they call, inform them very sweetly that you need to have the number so your Friend can call them back. They should give it to you. I had the same problem..if they keep calling , insist on speaking to the boss..keep staying on the line and complaining until you DO get the boss.then inform him that the phone number they keep calling belongs to YOU and you do not know this person. There is no need to be ugly or swear..Just politely strongly insist that they quit calling or you will have to take other action against their company. Make sure that you write down the time, date, and name of the person you are speaking to, plus the title he/she may have (manager or what ever).. This way if it continues, you will have reference point /person that you can file complaint on.then if they do continue , go file the complaint. Good Luck! I don't know what phone service you are subscribing from, but if they offer it ,you need privacy manager. That way if an unknown caller tries to call you, privacy manager will not let the call go through unless they announce themselves first. It will then be up to you if you want the call or not just by pressing a certain button. Look at it like this; at least you will know who you don't want to be bothered with at 8 in the morning!!! They are calling you because you have the same last name and are listed on some piece of paper as a possible relative. It happens to my brother all the time. I never gave anyone his number but they call his house for me. I told him to tell them he doesn't know any Mo. Collection agencies would normally at least give you a number to call them back once you have payment. You could try playing alone and seeing if you can trick it out of them. Cops can do things if they have an address. They won't want to help most likely. In either case tell the people on the phone that you will send them a check, they will give you a PO box if they are a real collection agency. From that you should be able to get some more information. You may want to hire a private investigator. Record your conversation telling them you don't know the person they are calling about. When the PI finds the address you can sue them in court for harassment. Of course that is a waste of your time and money because you will never get money from them. next time do this... ask to talk with their supervisor. speak clearly and precisely, dont' get an attitude and try to be nice. |
