In the state of Ky, can you be turned over for collection, if you are making payments? |
I owe 3 different hospitals for a surgery that I had last November. I am making monthly payments, have not missed any. One hospital is hounding me for larger payments and threatening to turn me over for collection. Can they do that? I was always told that as long as you are making payments, they couldn't do anything. the payments have to be part of an agreed payment plan with the hospital. If they have not agreed to a payment plan, they have the right to try legal collection methods to get the entire sum. Virtually any hospital will agree to reasonable payments though, as a lot of people end up in bankrupcy over medical bills, and then they get next to nothing. I've also heard that as long as you're making payments they can't do anything. I'm not 100% certain though, I would try to track down a lawyer or law student who would be willing to answer the question. |
