If you settled with a collection agency, then you get a bill for the remaining, what can you do about it?

If you settled with a collection agency, then you get a bill for the remaining, what can you do about it?

If you do not have anything from the collection agency showing the agreed settlement was paid, you may have a problem. However, I would call the collection agency and explain the situation; the settlement may be noted in their files. This leads me to a piece of advice: If you settle the debt with a collection agency for less than you owed, you should always request proof of the agreement. Collection agencies do NOT usually send a letter reflecting the agreement; you have to request it. I have had a collection agency try to bill me for a remaining balance when I settled for less, but because I had proof of the agreement, they removed the bill from their records.

If you don't have a written agreement that says your payment settles the debt in question, you're out of luck.

If you have proof go to small claims court
