I have a question regarding collection calls? |
I was told by a friend that if a bill collector calls you from outside of the state that you live in to collect on a debt that is against the law for them to do that. Has anyone heard this before? Just wondering if this is true or not? Assuming you're in the US, not true. It all depends in which state you live in. Under the"FEDERAL" - "Fair Debt Collection Practice Act" of l997 - any bill collector can call you from where ever BUT they can not call you BEFORE 8:00 AM and AFTER 9:00 PM - YOUR TIME! - otherwise they can be subject to up a fine of $1,000.00 for each violation! Tell your friend to go back to school, that is not true. Not true, but they are restricted to the time of day and the # of times per day they can call. Try the sites below, make sure to change your State/Location in which you reside. Hope this helps. |
