Can a school ban you from parking in collection areas, because of the age of your children? |
I have twin three year olds and three other children under nine. The school has two car parks, one at the front and another 150 yards away. The school has informed me that I can not park at the front, although it makes life considerably easier for me and the children, however they allow parents with one or two children to park there. Can the headteacher discriminate stating who can or cant park in the designated pick up zones?. if the car park is on school grounds then the head has final say and he/she can ban you from parking there - suggest you appeal to the board of governers Surely if they allow some people to park there then everyone should be allowed? No...write a letter and state your case...and tell them you will continue to park there. If they are not part of school property, then No! BUT the head may well be aware of problems that such parking causes to local residents. if the area is on school grounds or is owned by the school then the head teacher can make thaat decision. if you object or think it unfair you can appeal to the school governors I'd say not, what can he do? Your not breaking any law are you? I think he can ask parents but I know what I would say if it was me, I'd tell him to get stuffed! Hang on... if the parking area is part of the public road no the school have no jurstriction on public roads Many schools will have a designated area closer to the main door allocated for children with disabilities and very young school aged children. This is to allow the school to keep an eye on their most vulnerable students as they wait for mummy or daddy, or to prevent them from wandering out into the traffic of the parking lot. noi, technically you can sue them for age discrimination, speak to a solicitor or the CAB |
