How can you tell,if dept collection's are legitimate,or,illegitimate...?

Excuse me,debt collectors!

If you receive a phone call from a collector they must say
"This is an attempt to collect a debt and any information obtained will be used for that purpose".
By law, the collection agency must send you written notice of the debt and then give you 30 days to respond.
Next time they call remind them of these 2 things and watch them stutter.
Make sure they have your correct address so they can send you the notice.
If you tell them on the phone or in writing not to contact you again they can not contact you again and if they do - report them to your State Attorney General Office.

Ask them to mail you proof of the debt, by law they are required to do so. Now you have to remember that you are dealing with pond scum when it comes to collectors and generaly they don't want to do anything helpfull but if you harass them enough they will comply. And don't let them use any of their KGB tactics and scare you....tell them that unless they talk to you like an adult then you will hang up.
