Now....I am in no way endorsing homosexuality.....I recognise the fact that it is a different life style then what society has endorsed as normal. However, I think in the 21st century...we should have equal rights for EVERYONE....And even though others may not agree with gays...may not like them for their own prejudice reasons....Why not grant them the same freedoms, justices, and TITLES that everyone else has. If they love someone, it is not mine, nor anyone else's job or duty to judge that love....and no one has the right to call it less then that.
I'm nineteen years old...and I already have this opinion:
That if you don't approve of same sex marriage, don't marry someone of the same sex. Then no one is hurt.
And I'm also christian...and I can't stand the christians that bring religous values into this. Yes, this country was formed by christians...but it was also formed on seperation of church and state. That is what makes this country so beautiful....that one has the freedom to worship who ever they want. I believe Christ was the son of God and will return....but Its not my job to make everyone worship him. As a christian it is my job to see who is willing to learn about Christ...to try and persuade others to see the light.
Ya know?
And there are so many christians that try to shove your scripture down gay's throats, no wonder their petrified to walk into a church.
I've read the Bible in its entirety...and though I do believe it was divinely inspired by God, it was written by man and by the point of view of man at the time.
If you read more closely you would also read "judge not and ye will not be judged" and "all sin and fall short of the glory of God." THis means no one is better, and NO ONE has the right to judge another human being for any reason.
For it also says that "we all are equal at the foot of the cross"
If people did their research, they would see that marriage was in no way created or instituted in the Bible. Though it is mentioned as plenty of married peoples lived in the Bible, it did not originate there. It originated in Rome, and at first was seen as a way to own a woman.
If we continue to live in a world that practices laws and traditions of 2000 years past, should we not still stone people in the streets? Should we not kill someone for talking back to their mother like as was done in Bible times. If so, say goodbye to every child you ever saw on Maury. Should we not own many wives and trade them or pawn them off for sex for political advancement as done back then? Should we still own blacks? See...Over time we have all come to realize that these practices we're wrong....and anyone who isn't blind would agree. So as the times change, society needs to adjust.
At the end of the day I'm still amazed that living in a country that has advanced further then so many other countries, we still have not caught onto this. In respect for all those that lived in the 60's and remember the civil rights movement, don't gays live and struggle with the same thing? I mean, forty years ago, black couldn't marry whites, couldn't get equal pay or jobs, couldn't get equal anything really. ANnd scripture was used to support unequality in this nation. In comparison, gays are going through something very similar.
Let me know who agrees, and who disagrees....but I ask that we keep it classy and form an adult conversation here. NO hateful remarks. Just a debate. And try to keep open minds and unbiaced opinions here;.
Love ya

I like how people keep saying homosexuals are born that way.
Sounds like a genetic disease to me then.
Haha personally I don't care one way or the other so long as it doesn't affect me. Marriage is an important heterosexual tradition, also usually a sacred one. Let it stay that way.
Gays are free to marry people of the opposite sex like everyone else. Sodom and Gomorah.
Homosexuality is a sin.
God will not be mocked.
He will bless the country that honors Him; and remove His blessing if it doesn't. I have a fact for you. homosexuality is natural and being strait. dogs monkey donkeys horses cats the list goes on so get over it Obtain your orgasms any way you want. Just don't call living with the same sex 'marriage'.
Love ya i am glad you read the Bible from Gen. to Rev. and it does state judge not (he was talking to Believers and if you are not one then that does not apply).
Also, the Bible is the inspired Word of God, period, no and if or buts about it.
Marriage, Marriage is between a man and a woman and that's what God has called for, a perfect union.
Yes we should not be rude or disrespectful to anyone based on the sexual orientation but show them that God loves them enough not to keep them in that lifestyle.
A child of God must help other believers to stay out of sin and help those who are not to know the Glory of Lord and how Jesus died on the cross for their sins.
When you read, make sure you understand who the author is and the audience, is it believers or non believers.
Lastly, everyone that has walked this earth will have to give an account for their life regardless if you believer or not.
As a child of God, (those of us who are) we are called to Holiness this standard does not change, that what i love about Jesus. so don't worry about what folks due, treat everyone with respect and I pray that you come to know Jesus for yourself one day. I agree with every word you have said, wow, that was an awsome read.
APPLAUD))))))))))))))))))))))))))))
I guess I should add that I am a married straight.
Additional detail's;;
The bible thumpers are out in force *AGAIN*, LMAO, yes the very same ones whom I might add have a hankering to blow radical Islamists of the face of the freakin map for, trying to enforce the same train of thought as themselves, LOL, more double speak/brainwashing attempts from the very people who will lead us all to the pearly gates of h.e.l.l. if they have their way.
Avoid like the plague I say!
Homosexuality has been here since time began, and I suggest that those who oppose it, get freakin over it, because there ain't no way under or around *it*.
Truth be told, *we all* have at least *1* within the close vicinity of our family unit. What to do? ah! problem's problem's, who needs em? not me that's for sure, but alas, we are all smitten by them regardless of creed or color,
It's time to take the blinker's off and;
LIVE AND LET LIVE!
LOVE AND BE LOVED!
God Bless!
Love Ya, right back at YA!
Sincerely
Ahwahnee! Good for you for deigning to let people live, although your sense of whether people choose to be gay seems to be wrong. Let me ask you, when exactly did *you* decide to be gay or not? You didn't, you just are how you are.
> Yes, this country was formed by christians
Not true.
First of all, the modern concept of evangelical christianity didn't even come into being until about 1870-is or so. All of the Founding Fathers were long since planted in their grave by then
Second of all, I personally, just last week, read James Madison's notes from the Constitutional Convention in 1787. There was no debate regarding the form of government wiht relation to god at all, let alone as a sign of "glory to god"
in fact, there WAS a realization that they were already a varied lot relion-wise, that their ancestors had come from europe and elsewhere to escape religious persecution of all sorts, and that live and let live was the best policy, without any mention of god or religion, because it was going to get even more diverse in the future.
the founding fathers, at the time they put the foundations of our government in place, were interested in nothing less then the ideal SECULAR government, they knew full well regardless of their own individual beliefs or lack thereof, the dangers of state sponsored religion.
After all, they had just fought the British over precisely these matters, and they were well versed in the history of the forms of government thoughout the current time and all of Western History. These forms were discussed in detail, and god was not even mentioned in passing over 4 or five months of daily debate.
I know *your* church has taught you otherwise, but it is true what I say. You can buy the book yourself and read it ("Anti Federalist Papers" by Penguin Press, or even find the Constitutional Debates notes online for free.
I read them originally when I was in High School, so they are suitable - heck, they should be required! - and I decided to reread them recently, decades later as a refresher course in the foundations of our society because the stuff you are spouting is too often left unchallenged when it is easy to debunk.
BTW, another really interesting book I recommend for you and others (I have referred to it on this forum many times) is called "the Purchase of Intimacy" which is a sociological survey of changes in the legal status of various relationships over our history. The thesis is that laws lag a long time behind actual practice, but that they do always catch up eventually.
In that way, you are right, it is inevitable that anti-gay marriage laws will end the same ignominious way that the miscegenation laws did in our or our parents lifetimes.
And then, 40 years later, no one will remember why the hate from the prior generation.
Well, as long as the churches stop teaching kids to spout "facts" about this being a Christian nation anyway :) In my view I think homosexuality is wrong, but in the larger context America is suppose to the land of the free and a melting pot. Gays make up a segment of that melting pot and I believe they should have the rights as all other citizen of this country including marriage. People love who they love. Gay people pay taxes and contribute just like everybody else and contribute to society and should not be denied the right to marry because cynicism and homophobia. It is time that all people have freedom and democracy. 1. Cause homos make people feel icky
2. They don't want the world to be a place where that stuff goes on around them cause they just feel weird when they think of it.
3. I think your goin against your religion anyway there buddy. Wasn't sodem and gamora or what ever about gays getting killed for there sins
leading to point 3. There religion tells them it's wrong.
4. cause they are dumb and close minded You state: "If people did their research, they would see that marriage was in no way created or instituted in the Bible. Though it is mentioned as plenty of married peoples lived in the Bible, it did not originate there. It originated in Rome, and at first was seen as a way to own a woman."
Unfortunately, you miss the point entirely. The first married couple were Adam and Eve. God's perfect plan was to have them together...they had 3 sons afterwards. God created Adam male and Eve female--not only were they there to enjoy the garden with each other, but to be "fruitful and multiply." (Gen 1:28)
I disagree that same sex marriage is "ok." It certainly isn't God's plan of one man and one woman, nor is it a relationship that can produce children, regardless of gays resorting to adoption, surrogate mothers, or sperm banks. I am Christian and I wouldn't castigate gays, but to put their relationships on par with the way our Creator made us is an affront to him.
I am not "hating " on anyone. I think Christians should love one another but part of loving is to have "tough love" sometimes, just like a parent does. No limits doesn't help anyone.
I fear that same-sex marriage won't stop...the next logical step would be "man-boy" relationships as those promoted by the North American Man/Boy Love Association (NAMBLA) (like those in Greek and Roman history AND it's already being advanced in Europe) or multiple relationship "marriages" (3 people in the same household. ) |
