can a defendant who speaks English as a second language ask for a translator to be present? who would pay for the translators services? It depends. Yes, they can. Some larger courts have court interpretors and one just needs to book their services a few days in advance at the states expense. Yes and the Police, or Court will pay for the translator. They will also pay for somebody to sign if the person is deaf. |
