Political rights????

I have searched Google about political rights in the US. I don't know a good website that will help me identify what some of the political rights are in the United States (I have found a lot on Civil and Social rights, but not on political rights specifically). Thanks.

I am doing a paper in Sociology and it asks what are five rights each in Political, social, and civil rights. In the book it says social rights are like welfare, unemployment, civil rights are freedom of speech and religion, and I'm fuzzy on what political rights mean: like rights to participate in elections, run for office, etc. But that is all it gives.

I'm not sure how you differentiate civil rights from social rights and political rights. All the laws that we have in this country which guarantee an individual's freedom from government (and sometimes private) coercion are considered civil rights.
You can start with the federal Constitution, and then you can read the individual state constitutions. There are also rights specified in general legislation at the federal and state levels, such as housing laws and fair labor laws.

Keep in mind, however, that the U.S. only recognizes "negative" rights (i.e. they restrict the powers of the government and specify what the government *cannot* do to you). Around here, there are no such things as positive rights (i.e. a right to be provided health care, a right to be provided employment, a right to be provided housing, etc.) which you tend to find in more socialist countries.

that's because rights aren't given so to speak based on ones political outlook.

certain rights are given based on gender, sexual orientation, race and religion, but not whether you are democrat or republican.

the closest thing you're going to get is the constitution, which applies to all citizens.

Read the constitution - free elections, term limits for president, protest, petition, voting, etc.
