Should we have less civil rights, and more punishment - as a way of reducing crime?

These guys who go around stabbing people, they get off to lightly, they serve no purpose in society, surely they should be brutally butchered by the family of those killed

Stiff penalties are the answer. Look what happened when the got really serious with the drunk driving penalties. Drunk driving went way down.

In Nj it is nothing to get 10 years for murder. 10 years?

Absolutely... Justice is not swift or concise enough in our society... Bring back the death penalty and simplify the legal system and watch how quickly the crime rate drops...

Look at the states where capital punishment is not supported... those are the states with the highest crime rates...

I like the idea of a wild west style law... Just tip your hat tex and keep walkin' because I'm the quickest draw in town...
Look at the states with the loosest gun laws... The have the least crime because citizens are more likely to defend themselves because they have a gun and are not afraid of any penalties because they are allowed to use it to defend themselves w/o persecution...

If you had the mind to rape someone, would you be more reluctant to do it knowing that you could face death by the person defending themselves...? Probably not... Our current corrupt and slothful justice system breeds criminals...
Commiting a crime gets you Three hots and a cot... Not so bad if your broke and living on the streets... That backwards thinking needs to be stopped... Capital Punishment is the only way to stop it... The current situation just encourages criminals...

"The war on drugs may be well intentioned but it falls ******' whack... When you stop to mention... an overcrowded prison where a rapist gets paroled.... To make room for a dewd who has sold... A pound of weed? To me that's a crime..." - Nick Hexum...

I completely agree wit you! Until there is a deterrent for crimes, they will continue to happen. Currently, the justice system is broke, to say the least. My opinion is that until every person carries a gun that they are willing to use, there will be crimes. You can't depend on the government to take care of you through the judicial system- so it only leaves you--- to take care of you and this is the only way that I can see that you can do it.

Erm, no.
However, we need more police on foot patrolling hot spots and those police need to be using stop and search vigorously (scrap the police paperwork associated with stop and search, so they are not put off from using this power more often).
Basically, our law enforcers need to reclaim OUR streets.

The problem is that criminals don't fear going to prison. Prison is now a place they can work out, eat three meals a day, get health care, and learn more about being a criminal. Prisons need to take all the inmates' freedoms away and really make it a place not to visit...

The "eye for an eye" debate is not new, my fellow philosopher.

yea i agree any violent crime cant be tolerated but 18 year olds that goto jail for marijuana is ridiculous there not killing anyone are government needs to work on some of there flaws with that at least

Having less civil rights would be totally against what the US is about. It would make it worse on those of us that follow the law.

Yes.
Throw out the tree huggers who spout human rights and then flout the rights of the victims.

yes yes yes, we need to leave the EU court of human rights now, so we can properly defend our familes.
