ACLU Haters?

Why do so many people have a negative view of the American Civil Liberties Union?
The ACLU is our last line of defense against government tyranny and oppression and it seem odd that so many would dislike an organization that fights for the rights of all Americans.
The ACLU has defended free speech for everyone form war protestors to the KKK.

Most people don't even understand rights - especially if those rights are being extended to other people.

They hate anyone who disagrees with them - in fact or in principal.

Beyond that, they do not understand the mission of the ACLU. But then, neither do the people currently running it.

People that really understand the ACLU despise them because they POSE as "our last line of defense against government tyranny and oppression", when in fact they are anything but that.

The real defense against government tyranny in the United States is a populace that actually KNOWS the Constitution, and will defend it at the ballot box. If the ACLU was so important in that process, our Founders would have created them.

What the ACLU does is sow confusion. They file lawsuits based on some really dubious claims of what the Constitution means, and even when they fail in the lawsuit, they usually succeed in further convincing the populace that they are incompetent to read and understand the Constitution for themselves, leaving them easy prey when the government actually violates it, but in a way approved of by the ACLU.

You're the last line of defense against tyranny. You can leave your freedom up to the government, or you can leave it up to the ACLU, the result is going to be the same either way.

because for the most part normal average people cannot see the forest through the trees

they only believe that 'their' speech or 'their' rights are important and that other people/groups, especially eclectic or controversial people/groups, don't deserve the same rights that normal-average people deserve

they also don't seem to understand that popular speech doesn't need to be protected, which is why the ACLU seems to protect some fairly unpopular speech....including the anti-ACLU's poster child of NAMBLA

no matter how many times it is explained to an anti, all they see is child-molesters......they conveniently forget the whole speech aspect of it and the fact that the ACLU finds NAMBLA's purported aims as repugnant

However the ACLU are two-faced. The ACLU (Anti-Christian-Liars-Union) will stand for someone who wants to burn an American flag under the 1st amendment however if a Christian teacher places his Bible on his desk, the ACLU will come and file suit against the teacher's right to free speech in a heartbeat.

They started out looking out for that but now they are trying to make people remove crosses and stuff like that. Go to web sight www.aclj.org and you can see somethings that are going on that the news media wont talk about. They hate anything to do with God which is their right but I have rights to. And a key word you used oppression is just what they are now doing themselfs.

even the bad guys need defending.... for all of us the have free speach, this mean even the KKK needs to have free speach.. if the people that want the war to stop, then that means the people that are ok with the war need to have a say it in too..

aclu doesn't represent mainstream America

They do nothing except when the cameras are rolling

and child perverts.
