Can animals be considered under Civil Rights?

Ok well I have to find a civil rights article for my civics class and I was wondering if I could do an article on the rights of animals

Is that acceptable or are animals not considered like civil rights

and if not could anyone give me some examples?

You're treading on very thin ice when you talk about animal rights. Some people believe animals have the same rights as humans, and thus should not be used by humans ever, whilst some believe humans can do whatever they want with animals. Much gray area in between.

No, they are not considered under Civil Rights.

They do have laws governing their usage; Animal Welfare Act comes to mind. Check out the USDA's website.

No animals would not be covered by the civil rights. Animals are considered property by the law. If somebody kills your dog they are not charged with murder. You can civilally sue for what you paid for the dog. And if your dog lives you can not sue for pain and suffering for your dog. You can sue for vet bills. In other words an animal is not a person and does not have the same rights.
