Tony Blair is a trained barrister how does he justify the erosion of peoples rights/liberties by labour gov.?

Most Barristers i have come across over the years have all been hot on peoples rights and civil liberties and Labour is supposidly the party of the people and yet this government seems to be having a succession of home secretarys who seem to be suggesting laws to take away many of the rights and liberties of the the people which have stood for generations for instance once tried and acquited of a crime by a jury of his peers a person cannot be retried for the same crime (now gone) etc

Tony Bliar gives Barristers a bad name.

This is just a guess, but like our not beloved idiot we have as President, they seem to assume what they are doing is God's work.
In their minds, God speaks to them, and we are expected to be the lambs that follow them to the slaughter.
Our President wire taps Americans without a court order, he set up a Patriots act, that cuts deep into our constitutional rights, and the Bill of Rights. All this in the lie, of pretending to protect us from Terrorism.
It's time for both countries to get new leaders.

You do not have a constitution protecting your individual rights. He can justify it as he wishes. That is the primary reason th U.S. inserted the first ten ammendments of the constitution. Thomas Jefferson forsaw the problem and had them added. Unfortunatly you goverment has too much power.

It would be interesting to catalogue all the rights the citizen has lost in the UK under Tony Blair. Unfortunately the previous Conservative goverment was not much better. Noatably under Michael Howard as Home Secretary. We seem to be moving inexorably to the Orwellian State and the Thought Police, and no-one is seriously challenging it. When we wake up to what is happening it will be too late!!
