Do we need all these rights?

WOULDNT WE BE ALOT SAFER IF WE HAD AN EMPORER OR SOMETHING WHO DID ALL OUR THINKING FOR US? I MEAN IF WERE NOT DOING ANYTHING WRONG WHY DO WE NEED CIVIL LIBERTIES WE HAVE NOTHING TO HIDE. THEN THE GOVERNMENT COULD JUST THROW ALL THE TERRORIST AND BAD PEOPLE IN JAIL. THEY WOULDNT EVEN NEED TO HAVE A TRIAL BECAUSE THE POLICE WOULD NOT HAVE ARRESTED THEM IF THEY WERNT BAD PEOPLE. AND WHO NEEDS TO WRITE STUFF THAT IS BAD? SO WE REALLY DONT NEED FREEDOM OF PRESS OR SPEECH BECAUSE WE KNOW WHATS RIGHT AND WRONG THE GOVERNMENT CAN TELL US THAT.HOW BOUT WE JUST MAKE GEORGE KING GEORGE AND HE CAN SORT IT ALL OUT FOR US?

They wanted to make George WASHINGTON a king, but he didn't want it. He knew better. He'd be blamed for anything that went wrong anyway, and if his heirs were in power, they would suffer for it.

What if the government made a mistake? Or what if the next king was lazy or selfish or cruel? Hereditary government only works if the ruler is responsible. Bad rulers make life hell for the people.

By the same token, any system of government needs a way of being corrected (or overthrown) if they don't do their job. There is no guarantee that a republic (like America, as the pledge to the flag clearly states) or democracies (like Communist countries) will be any better than the people they are made of.

I am not going to address some of the specific points in your question, because I think you know this already, you are not serious in asking; you are just trying to be thought-provoking.

As we have seen in our own lifetime, even in Commmunist countries that began with the best of intentions, power acted to preserve itself and the people in power acted to maximize their influence. They began on the assumptions that people were inherently good and willing to share, and that they only needed to be educated. The governments of those nations fell because those are false assumptions.

They became Communist dictatorships like Cuba, and when they had taken over all the miliatry power so that the people could not revolt directly, there was no other way but to wait until they collapsed internally under the weight of the unrealistic economic predictions of their own system: You see, there were not enough barbarians outside and they had seen to it that they could not generate their own internal barbarians, and so they had to wait until they grew weak enough to collapse at the touch of market forces.

Try talking to someone who lived under a totalitarian regime, and they will tell you how much better America is. Try to call America an oppressive regime and those who have actually lived under them will laugh in your face.

wel its still nice to have them

Why don't you go to Cuba?

RIGHTS ARE FUNDAMENTAL

history has proven that one person alone is too stupid to rule. if living in a country where you have to think for yourself makes your head hurt then leave

You can have all that... Just leave the U.S.!!!!!

Good riddance to a freedom hating communist!!!!

wow...

do they let you drive and vote and sh*t?

Well, what would stop the King or Emperor from changing those laws, and taking those rights away from the people?

Because we can't always trust our leaders to know what's best for us.

does typing in all caps make you feel powerful? Cause to the rest of us, it just makes you look like an ignorant idiot.

George Orwell, 1984. Maybe not an emperor, but a party run by oligarchs ? Some sheeple would love it.

I would be happy to control your life for you. Just give me all your money and blindly follow whatever I say.

Go join a cult if thinking is too hard for you

I think you should go to another country like cuba or tunisia or china and see what liberty and rights you wont need to worry about.

I wish you good luck. send us a postcard

Because America's Founding Father's saw that that didn't work so well across the ocean. They thought they could build a better society with a different kind of Constitution, one that emphasized the freedoms of the individual.

Why don't you go visit someplace like China or Cuba or someplace that you have no rights to make any decisions and then come back and ask that question. I think it just means you're taking your rights for granted. Do you want a government telling you what to do with your life, what job to take, where to live?

I'm pretty sure that most airports in North America have flights that go over seas... If you would really like a dictator, instead of a President.. Feel free to board a plane, and become a citizen of a country that has a Dictator... I personally enjoy all of our rights, and while I agree that some get stretched and taken advantage of, it's still nice to know that they are there..

Remember.. You have a freedom of speech that allowed you to post your questions.. In some countries, you wouldn't even be able to ask your question, because it questions the government, and how the country is ran..

are you serious about this or is this a joke? apparently you've never learned anything about history, about where our forefathers came from and what compelled them to write civil liberties.
or better yet, go to some of these countries that have "emperors" and where the government tells you right from wrong, and ask those people why they're dying to come to America.

but look at it like this if we dident have rights someone could accuse you say,, of murder then if the king thought you were guilty without a trial you were pinished ..and all along you were inocent.. and now if you are accused of something you are guarnteed a trial and proven guilty..and freedom of speech just say you had an opnion on something like you have right now without freedom of speech you couldent voice your opnion..not even on yahoo....

You have one hell of a narrow sense of reality

freedom of the individual ( except to kill and such) is exactly what society (the Leviathon) attempts to destroy turning you into a rule following insignificant one of the herd.

There are far too many "views" on life and how to live it to ever have one IDIOT or one small group of IDIOTS in charge

Isn't FREEDOM from the monarchy of the biggest reasons
the United states came into being in the first place and you want to sell yours for what - hell you don't even want to sell it you just want to mindlessly give it away.

PLEASE get an education in philosophical morality and ethics and work up from there, you will never be safe thinking the way you do - you will be a prisoner

Good Luck

It sounds nice but eventually the government would become corrupt with someone like Hitler or Stalin and everything would be messed up.
