Ron Paul is pro life; If he was president, do you think he would criminalize abortion?

I've been a huge fan of Ron Paul's views, although there is one big discrepancy in his views that is bothering me.

He wants to protect civil rights, and individual freedom. And while saying this he also says he is "unshakable foe of abortion"

Not only is this infringing on our human rights, but this is just an impossible task. And trying to outlaw abortions will only cause more doctors to go to jail for doing a medial procedure. And force desperate women to go to unlienced doctors to get the operation done.

None of this sounds to me to be right. Our citizens need qualified doctors to preform this procedure. And jailing doctors for doing this is just not right.

Now i'm not saying that killing an unborn child is right; but two wrongs don't make a right. And so maybe we need some on in office to see this; and while he personally is against it. Realizes that any laws against it wont work.

If he is willing to enforce this law, and infringing on our civil liberty; what else will he do?

"I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life. This is a practical, direct approach to ending federal court tyranny which threatens our constitutional republic and has caused the deaths of 45 million of the unborn."

I agree with you completely.

Paul has said that he would not try and regulate it federally, but would remove R vs W so that the states could determine whether they want to have it legal in their state or not.

His website states exactly "I am also the prime sponsor of HR 300, which would negate the effect of Roe v Wade by removing the ability of federal courts to interfere with state legislation to protect life."

Kind of a cop out as it gets him what he wants without him directly having to take heat for it, but he's still the best overall candidate for '08.

Just for the record, I am opposed to abortion. I just don't think it's the government's place to regulate it.

I could be totally wrong, but I think it would take an act of congress to outlaw abortion---which just isn't gonna happen. i don't think a president can just write a law and then sign it into being--he's the executive arm, and outlawing/criminalizing something is the legislative arm's job, right? so in my opinion if you like the guy you probably don't have to worry about him being president just on that one issue. but who knows.

Ron Paul could not criminalize abortion. The President does not create the law, only an act of Congress can do this.

It would be difficult to do short of a constitutional ammendment. Abortion legislation has been treated as a state's jurisdiction.

No he wouldn't make it illegal. He thinks the federal government shouldn't be involved in it at all, and would let each state decide for themselves.

Roe V. Wade determined abortion was a matter to be determined at the State level.

Also, I don't think he would have enough support, in the senate or congress to pass such a law.

A president cannot change any law. It would take a constitutional amendment which can only be done by Congress....

Because abortion falls under privacy guarantees, Roe v Wade will be with us....it will not be overturned. It is here to stay.

It is a womans right to make decisions concerning her own body....not the law, nor the president or anyone else. No one can FORCE a woman to give birth..... This is a free society. We can make our own life decisions as long as what we do is legal.

As for Ron Paul --- he's a funny guy - but not presidential material. He's good for a few laughs but stands NO chance of being elected. Most of us out here in the real world simply laugh at him.

First of all he is for pro-life BUT and this is a huge but.....he will not ask for it to be done on a national level. He believes in states rights and on minimal federal government. He has said many times that he will not make a federal law on abortion. Ron Paul, like me, understands that the liberty of the innocent child should be protected but through higher education on the topic. He hopes to eliminate abortion as a birth control through education, not legislation! Plus.....it would never be impossible for him to push through a pro-life agenda without congress!

I don't understand why people are saying Roe v. Wade leaves it to the states to decide. It actually took the decision away from the states. The president can't make law, but can influence what is done (if he has a majority in congress). The only reasonably likely thing to happen would be that the Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade and then the states are free to decide. I'm not sure what is so bad about letting the people decide what they want.

This might be the only issue I agree with Ron Paul.
