Do we really have FREEDOM OF SPEECH?

I am somewhat baffled at the idea of freedom of speech within our once great country (The United Kingdom), how can we possibly have the same freedom of speech that our older generations fought so valiantly for if we are constantly having new laws banning us from saying things that could be mis-construed as offensive towards a certain minority (be it race, gender, age, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, just to name a few). All be it only one persons view but surely political correctness has now over-stepped the mark and has turned a once free country (quite deviously) into a dictatorship. But where should we draw the line between our civil rights and the next mans', as if you were to allow complete freedom of speech, then somewhere along the lines, someone's civil liberties will be affected as they will be offended by what the next man has to say, but surely if you don't allow that next man to speak about his point of view you are encroaching on his civil rights

You can't say what you want??????

Okay, I could understand not being able to criminally threaten someone or attempt to intimidate them, but other than that you should be able to express yourself.

Man, I am sorry to hear the UK is going down such an ugly path.

As for where to draw the line on rights and liberties, I believe the right to swing my arm stops a few inches from your face. I believe that you have the right to say what you want UNLESS it endangers someone else---for example no yelling "Fire!" in a crowded theater and no soliciting murder.

Laws about what passes your lips can't achieve the real goal of the folks who write the laws: stopping ugly thoughts.

Not in the USA. We have restricted political speech with McCain-Feingold. I hate career politicians.

Stand up for your rights! We Americans did, and I can stand up and say any damn thing I want to. Anyone don't like it? That's too bad, Jack! Just don't listen if it offends your sensibilities! Get it?

I am in the US and we to are have the same problem.

not any more!

no - political correctness has robbed us of that right

because with freedom of speech comes....responsibilty. The only protection in court to a case of slander or libel is the "Truth". Other than that, you take your own accountability of what you say into your own hands.
