Conservatives If you want to bear arms would you be willing to work?

with librals that want them too for that common cause? I live in the wild west and some of our people want to bear arms also. In fact tons of them. They believe what you believe. Would you work with them to keep that civil right theoretically even if they were librals? I believe in this right although I do not have one. I grew up with them and learned respect for them and gun safety and shot my fathers guns.

Would you put aside your differences for a common cause of civil rights? Remember strength in numbers? Would you work with people you disliked to get what you wanted in life for a common goal?

mastinox that was funny

I don't care what a persons political persuation the ability and right to protect oneself is as old as the constituion itself. Its only a matter of time before a huge all out grab is made by government to disarm its citizens in the name of public safety. I would rather have my neighbors next door armed than I would a terrorist or criminal.

Yes, Liberals are (sort of) Americans too.

Absolutely!!! This is not a Dem/GOP or conservative/liberal debate for me. This is our given right. To keep and bear arms.

I would work with them for a common goal and the greater good. I am a conservative and I disagree with the right to bear arms. We abused that priviledge a long time ago.

There are more conservative gun owners than liberals. It is liberals that have taken up the cause to have our guns taken away. This is not an issue up for discussion anyway. Where are you getting these ideas that there is a credible initiative to take away the 2nd amendment?

most libs hate guns

Carrying a gun does not protect you from other people with more guns than you. Freedom requires diplomacy on an individual basis. Democratically endorsed law-enforcement is a more effective safety measure than a daily neighbourhood shoot out. Guns need controlling as much as any other weapon.

You are missing the point, the 2nd amendment is not designed just for conservatives like me. It is a natural right conferred on all free men by god (women too, by nature or whatever if you are PC).

I am a fervent gun rights supporter; I have given speeches to hostile crowds who are traditionally liberal. I have talked to gays, black and feminist groups about the importance of gun rights although they are traditionally liberal. Each of these groups is more likely to be attacked; therefore needing a better form of protection than 250 pound, body builder, upper middle class, ex cop, former marine, black belt, gun toting, white boys like me.

The fact that you are gay, female or black makes you exponentially likely to be the victim of violence; yet these groups are almost exclusively liberal; I guess they are more concerned with the empty promises of the left than survival itself.

The purpose of the 2nd amendment is to protect individuals from crime and abusive governments; all of which are traditionally liberal groups follow without question.

The founding fathers knew a thing or two about the nature of man; yet everyone mindless liberals want to ignore them. Bonus thought; Whose throat do you think the Islamofascist terrorists throat will cut first neocon Christians like me or godless caring liberals.

Step off the plantation and think for yourselves before it is too late

Adobe, are you referring to the UN attempt to remove private ownership of personal firearms in the world? And since we would sign that treaty, then it would "preempt" the US Constitution?

Nothing pre-empts the US Constitution. If you want to complain about loss of civil liberties, then blame FDR more than GWB. I have read the patriot act, and I do not see a civil rights violation anywhere in it. I am not some kool-aid drinking blind man either. I am black, and libertarian, with conservative leanings. There has not been a true violation of civil rights anywhere in the USA under the US Patriot Act.

The potential is there, I will grant you that. But there is more potential in the emergency FEMA powers than anywhere in the Patriot Act. FEMA powers usurp your 3rd amendment rights without due process. The policies of the Drug war have more civil rights violations than any policies set by GWB.

The government has a right to collect public data and store it. You have no right of privacy when you are in public. The Patriot Act allows the government to share its data with other parts of the government. It allows the left hand and the right hand to work together, and prevent a future 9/11.
