Have you experienced discrimination and/or sexual harassment at your place of employment?

Have you been the victim of such crimes and how has your employer handled it if you confronted this behavior? I am writing a book about Affirmative Action Policy and it's use and/or misuse in the workplace. The United States EEOC (Affirmative Action) policies are not being enforced for various reasons, including because that department has been seriously underfunded. This gross underfunding has caused Affirmative Action staff to not be able to adequately investigate discrimination, and consequently, not to be able to track and correct or punish the abusers of this still very prevelant societal blight. The Civil Rights Act, which guarantees citizens of this country the right to equal employment opportunities as well as a harassment free work environment is in very serious danger of being eliminated. I would love to hear your stories and experiences and can even offer some help based out of my own experiences with this very pervasive problem.

the EEOC was formed and falls solely under Title VII of the civil rights act of 1964 as amended 1991. were is it that you see affirmative action as part of title VII. i have been unable to find any mention of it. in actuality affirmative action is illegal in hiring under title VII. how are you planning to tie EEOC or EEO to affirmative action, how do they relate and what kind of study are you actually doing? title VII and the EEOC's sole purpose is the abolition of discrimination in any form and relates solely to the workplace.

would really like to know where you are going with this.

if you want info on affirmative action you need to look into
Executive Order 11246 -- Affirmative Action 1973
EEOC does not deal with this but OFCCP does in regards to government contracts and government contractors. these are the only employers required to have a affirmative action plan in policy.

EDIT:
the problem with discrimination cases is not lack of enforcement it is lack of complaints. people either don't complain to the EEOC or they try to "sue" their employers which does not work since they failed to follow proper procedures. eveyones answer is "sue them" when in reality the EEOC will do it for you. the following link is for the EEOC's records for 1997-2007 cases filed and resolved showing total dollars won for employee's 2007 over 72% of all legitimate claims were solved and with a monetairy settlement for the employee.

yes i been, and the worst part is that i got fired??? but didn't have the time nor money to follow up with the lawsuit

Yes, I worked for one gay dentist, and he hugged me couple times. Then, after I told him that I have a girlfriend, he fired me.
That workplace is terrible. His sister (lesbian) worked there, and his "partner".

no never experienced that problem..
I'm a teatcher in Belgium and have only one or two men at work.so I don't face that kind of problem
I hope you'll get well soon

Yes, and I've contacted Peter Francis Geraci.

I was discrimanated by 2 employers cause i am white & my husband is black. The most recent boss went as far as to call my husband the N word cause he forgot to shut a door. Then the boss went on to saying that cause he was from India that he does not look at skin color & that americans do.

This was 17 years ago, now. I worked for a retail company, no longer in business. I was 17, almost 18. The store manager flirted with me all the time. I was called to his office repeatedly. He wanted to talk about my career goals. All the other associates, they looked at me like I was doing something wrong. So I confided on one of the managers, and asked her if he ever came on to her. She gave me a dirty look and said, I am too old honey. Eventually..well.. what's past is past. But back then no one cared....

I worked for Akal Security, Las Vegas, where I was transferred down as a supervisor from another job at the World Market Center starting 2 Jan 07. There was a lesbian who was having personal problems with her live-in love and she was always calling off - 19 no-call no-shows, and she was still working there.

I came in and saw the morale being affected by this apathy, so the next time this stunt was pulled on my shift, I documented #20 and #21 with intent to get her to either show up or get fired on #22.

Unfortunately, the account manager was protecting her, so she created a way for me to get demoted to normal shift worker.

The lesbian had been running her mouth constantly about me, calling me a military wannabe and other names, including "rapist". My friend, who was supervisor in the other building, told me what it was like to work with her and listen to her carry on about me. I was shocked.

When I got the demotion, my friend told the lesbian she "finally got what she wanted", and she went off into a tailspin that would have gotten anyone fired - except her. She was mad at all her contacts for letting her plan out of the bag, and she ruined the watch. Instead of taking her off shift, they let her stay in the office all night! I didn't get a relief for lunch or a break that day. The complaints fell on deaf ears.

I wrote up a sexual harrassment charge and the account manager simply made us sign matching documents never to work together. I was still demoted and still the same rank as the lesbian, and she lost nothing.

Later, it was found the account manager was cooking the books. I was let go, not the lesbian, and I have bounced from job to miserable job. Fighting this over $13 an hour with all the other problems (Akal lost the contract for this and other reasons) going on was ridiculous. I took a $4 pay cut to take another security job and things have been downright horrible since.
