How is cutting back inmate rations to 2 oz. fish stick, 20 greenbeans, and 1 biscuit justifiable to cut costs? |
why is the government permitted to promote such deplorable conditions, and why is it they tax the public to maintain the prison system and barely provide basic staples of living to inmates. inmates work for the state on roads and land and in various gov't facilities doing many things from harvesting parts from old police cars, to cleaning gov't buildings and the state retains much of the tax dollars alloted for such work, repairs, etc..while inmates work for pennies on a dollar for commissary to purchase food to supplement their diet, reconstituted hygeine products, and writing materials to write their loved ones. on top of this they barely recieve concentration camp sized rations, get yelled at, beaten, and abused. is it any wonder why so many re-offend, or lash out out from just plain being worn out physically, spiritually, and emotionally? then if they try and do something about it, they can be sued for $46 per day incarcerated? sure they have no civil rights what about human rights i guess it depends on the state and the facility you are in, but i've heard of quite a few really bad ones. it's sad and really pathetic when even guards feel bad about the place. it's also a shame when some of them view these guys as animals... my friend earned 2 purple hearts in iraq, and was just defending a chic getting raped a few short weeks after he got debriefed/left the service...and despite this it just seems a shame this is how he's treated...and i've seen guards scream in his face and call him words i cant even post on this page...like they really believe he is that. has the system gone a little too far? I don't feel sorry for them at all! In the state of Ohio, it costs over $70/day to take care of inmates...do you know how much is spent on early education....LESS THAN $4/day. they are in prison for a reason, they shouldn't be treated like P.O.W.s and i don't think it's like what you described at most prisons. That is why they call it punishment. Before they were getting like 3200 calories per day. People really can do with 2000 calories fine. They get fed a LOT. Unless you've worked in or been through the prison system, it's hard to separate fact from truth. Why are they in jail. It isn't a sleep away camp. Pardon, but you're way off base. Those inmates eat better than I do! They get better health care and better housing conditions. I'd love to be able to eat that kind of food, but I can't afford it. Every dime I have pays for medication that I need just to survive - Insulin. My co-pay is $60/bottle. I use about 6 bottles a month. My insulin pump supplies are not covered - $562/month. My blood testing strips are not covered - $58/25 test strips (I am supposed to test 4 to 6 times a day - but I can't afford to, I test about once a week). So quite frankly, it pisses me off that they get to eat better, live better, and even get free health care, BECAUSE THEY ARE A BUNCH OF CRIMINALS. I am a law student who works very hard to be a productive member of society. I have FOUR JOBS just so I can pay for my medicine and insurance (the school's insurance won't cover me at all). I can't afford fish stick OR biscuits! so who do you know in prison? obviously you are bitching on behalf of someone you know.are you aware that most prisons allow friends and family to bring food rations into them twice a month? Momma always said, if you can't do the time, don't do the crime The inmates in the prison by me get treated just fine. because Americans are sadists. That is the most ridiculous thing I've heard! So I suppose you want our prisons to be like a luxury hotel? Seriously, they commit the crime, they shouldn't expect an extended stay at a spa. It's a lot better than you think it is in prison. They get better health care coverage than MANY Americans, all paid for by, OUR TAX DOLLARS. If your in prison, you should be happy with whatever you get. It shouldn't be like a stay at the countryclub. If you want better, or more food, get a job and be a responsible human being. In my opinion, if your in prison, you shouldn't have any rights, you shouldn't get to watch t.v. or go to the gym and pump iron or do anything enjoyable. You're the one who screwed up. Don't do the crime if you don't want to do the time. I agree. |
